I am looking to talk to any owner of a new or fairly new 16ft Spirit deluxe or Freedom deluxe owner. We are seriously thinking about ordering one this week but we have never saw one in person,we have our package the factory sent us but its not the best information around,we just had a few questions about the side dinette and or the swivel captain chairs. They dont show us the back side of the trailer, the side where the dinette sits on the side. They gave us the name of a man here in Las Vegas but he has the 17ft and it is differant then the 16....Can anyone help me out? Thanks. We bought our 2015 Scamp without going to the factory before pickup but thats only because we had owned one back in 1981. We have never saw a Casita other then going down the highways
I have a C-16 Std. and have owned a S-16 SD. The C-16 does not have the dropped floor so less headroom than a S-16. My C-16 has side dinette, about the same as a SD Scamp but flat floor. In the Scamp the Floor for the SD is on the raised section. A lot of people with the chair model Spirit DX convert to the benches for more storage. You see very few people go from bench seat to chairs but a very few do. They both have a long window like a Scamp by the side dinette. C-16 has smaller grey water tank than a Scamp. My C-16 has very light tongue wt. They both have the curved entrance door, same issues there.
IMO: With the side dinette 16's I would go with Scamp. I would consider a C16 Liberty with the big bed. Both companies do make nice trailers.
Thank you for the reply,we are wanting the Casita 16 because its the only one that has a front ac unit and we so do not want that ac up on top.WE do know we loose headroom over the Scamp but there are other things hubby likes about the Casita as well,we have to take and give on most things on either of them and get the things that are the most important to us. When we talked to the salesman today,I had asked about the side dinette seating area as the only pic's they gave us,doesnt show it all and i was concerned about putting ones feet under the table,we do not want to have to twist and set sideways at the table :-) At our age,we may get stuck in that position. He answered every other question very good except the one on the footing area for the side dinette we do understand the wheel well being right under there but it is on the Scamp as well

Earlene,
I probably can tell you just about anything you want to know on a 16' Casita as i had a 94' spirit Deluxe (w/bath) and under the closet ac
I'll list some of the things that may help
overall weight about 2300 lbs w/ about 260lbs tongue weight w/closet ac
Inside height 5'10" outside height with no ac on roof 7'8"
rear bed 72"x 44".....side dinette bed on the SD is 24"x78"
smaller fridge than the 17' model
Tows really well
the 16' scamp is 6'2" inside for more height
I've owned 13' 16' and 17' casita's and my favorite is the 16' Casita SD with the side dinette and bath/shower
Double check that the 16' is still available with the ac under the closet as i've heard word they may have discontinued it and i've been on the casita forums for about 10 years now and know these trailers in and out.
I'm 5'8" tall and the side dinette is easy to get in and out of and i've had two back surgeries. the swivel chairs make it tighter but a little more comfortable.
I have the 17' now which is about 3400lbs and 450lbs on the tongue and i also have a very good full size dodge ram to tow it but i just prefer the convenience of the 16'SD....... If your over 5'10" you may want to go with the 17' casita or the 16'scamp
Feel free to ask if you need more info..... oh by the way the air conditioning is colder up on the roof but it was still fine for me under the closet on the 16' and we live in Phoenix AZ
Also look at the shorter 15' or 17' Escapes they make a very fine trailer and if i could find one would easily be swayed

Thank you for the reply Joe,yes the bottom ac is still available only in the 16ft deluxe and that is what we are wanting, the 17ft ,tho we could use the head room ,is just not a good fit for us, we need to keep the weight down, thats why we have always had Scamps, but there are to many things that hubby likes better with the 16ft Casitas....since you have had so many ,where is the battery located? All we can see in the brochure pictures in the 2 propane tanks out front, cant see a battery out there,And i am asumming the bath in the Casita is about the same as the Scamp? I know the bed is smaller in the Casita model we are looking at but we're ok with that, since we cant get the bigger bed like we have in our 2015 scamp 13ft.Now to get the bigger bed in the scamp 16 you have to get the wood package, and there goes the weight again:-)...Is there storage under neath the seats on the side dinette? Thanks in advance
Launey and Earlene
The battery is located under the street side rear dinette just aft of the water heater and a real pain to get out.... I put an AGM battery in mine to eliminate filling with water.the easiest way to get it out is to remove that bench which take me under five minutes. the newer casita 16' may have an outside hatch now but not sure
there are mods to make that bed bigger which would fill the whole page here to describe
Plenty of storage under the side dinette benches and the ability to drop that side table down into a 24x78 bed could come in handy.....
If you look at a picture of a 16' from the side outside you will see that the body "Steps Up" behind the axle which makes ground clearance much higher back there than the scamp and the 17' casita.... that being said inside at the rear dinette and the side dinette it steps up about 3".... overall one fantastic trailer and it has the ability to fit into a garage with an 8' door ....the scamp and the 17' casita don't have tha capability

Thanks again Joe,you've been very helpful. Hubby bout croaked when I told him the battery took water lol...there is an outdoor storage on the new 16ft but we dont know if thats where the battery is or still where you said,we will call our salesman back again tomorrow,I called today and asked about 20 questions and he answered most of them all except that foot thing with sitting at the side dinette :-) Our garage doors are not 8 ft tall but the inside storage we pay a hefty price for here does so that would work for us.Sure wish they would have gave a pic of the outside of the 16 so we could see that step up it takes in the back, like I said, all the pic's seemed to be of a 17ft. We do like the idea of it being just a tad higher then the scamp in the back,it gets pretty low on some driveways.

Just thought I would tell you Joe,that the battery is located on the outside in a locked storage on the side of the 16SD now, this is just in case anyone else else starts bugging you and picking your brain with questions ,thanks again

Yes it seems computers do stupid stuff like that to us all the time lol...I asked the salesman why the water battery and he said that they find that they put out more time of dry camping....that may be,but Launey said we will replace it with a sealed battery when it needs replaced, maybe sooner

I used an AGM Battery in mine (Augmented Glass Mat).....A bit more expensive but you never add water.....never, It has a gel type substance inside but be sure it's not a car battery but an RV battery if you decide to go that route.
I may put one in my 17' because getting that battery out is still a little difficult because i have solar hooked to it
