Sway Control

We purchased our 2012 16ft Scamp last year and the previous owner has the sway control balls mounted on the trailer.  I was wondering if the use of sway control is used with these small eggs.  The few times I have towed it I have not noticed any motion, but again have not hit any real wind out on the highway. My tow vehicle is  2011 Toyota Tundra.  Thanks for and insight.

Not necessary

You have an excellent tow vehicle with a broad wheelbase and are not near towing capacity.  While it doesn't hurt to have the sway bar you certainly wouldn't need it with your setup.

We tow with 2012 Ford Escape

We tow with 2012 Ford Escape 6 cyl. and have never noticed a bit of sway. I stay a good 5 MPH  under the limit on all highways and secondary roads, and again, never noticed any sway.

Equalizer

We plan to get the Equalizer.  Really, really liked that when we used one with a 4,000 lb trailer and our van.  It may be overkill but that is our style, overthink it and overkill it.

sway

We added the sway control after reading comments on the forum. The problem we thought we saw was in strong cross wind but Now with the sway control the scamp pulls better all the time. Even Better.... There are far fewer items out of place or on the floor when we arrive at camp. The drawer over the frig used to be ready to fall out but now is just barely open. Things stay in place.

Glad I never had such a

Glad I never had such a problem towing, or things moving about. Also glad I did not have to make the expense of such a hitch. Scamp tows true and straight, even in the mountains out east.

Sway control

We also tow with a 2012 Ford Escape Limited, and usual I hate to say it but maybe a bit over the limit and never have had any problems with the camper swaying behind us…I do have to say when we went up north last week, the speed limit was 80 and I did not do that! I stayed around 73-75.I don't see any need for nothing being added on

Sway

Thanks for all the information everyone. I think I will go forward without sway control for now. I did stop in and have all the tires balanced last week, she pulls smooth.

Sway

We had some sway problems on a recent trip. Had to stop and empty the fresh water tank to help control. Were are new and found the that a second battery, that came with the 16', in the back my also have contributed to the sway. My solution, before adding any additional equipment, will be to move as much weight forward as possible. It would be nice to increase the towing speed as we traveled approx 500 miles one day on our last trip.

I guess it just depends on

I guess it just depends on the tow vehicle. We have a front wheel drive Ford Escape which we use for towing our Scamp. As a result of lowering the tongue weight, we fill our fresh water tank before towing. It lightens the tongue weight some, and gives more traction to the front wheel drive.
