Dead Horse Ranch SP-Cottonwood, AZ

One of my all time favorite campgrounds.  There are three loops, the original loop down by the Verde River with lots of trees and bugs, and two newer loops up at the top of a small mountain with incredible views.  Located only about 25 minutes from Sedona and Jerome, two big tourist destinations there is also quite a bit to do in Cottonwood area.  One of our favorite Mexican Restaurants is located in Clarkdale about 10 minutes from the campground. Arizona State Parks now take online reservations

Snow in Cottonwood AZ??

One of our favorite sites there is located on the top loop with 360 Panoramic Views

Greg..... Had the pleasure of

Greg..... Had the pleasure of staying there one time last year but  was down at the bottom with the trees which was still nice. But when i rode around and seen all those great sites up high looking out towards Jerome i knew when i go back there that my location of choice was up top. No shade but i have to buy one of those nifty tarps you got....

I so wish I lived out there!

I so wish I lived out there! Stuck here in the middle of America, St. Charles, MO. Born and raised in San Diego, but here I am, enduring winter now. Trailer is pickled away, and up on jacks. Must now endure a long and dreadful winter! I love the Arizona area, having flown the area as a corporate pilot. Beautiful grounds to me, but my wife hates it. I find great beauty in such areas. When she retires, we are going to head west big time, and enjoy the lands out there.

Winter Has Arrived

Winter has arrived in central KS also.  There is nothing like the AZ desert in the winter.   We were by Tucson.  We loved the Desert Museum, camping at Gilbert Ray Campground and Pichacho Peak.  Kansas has a lot of good camping areas if you like the more "rustic" with the man-made lakes and being from Michigan, I had never heard of a man-made lake.  The Corp of Engineer parks are really quite nice here as are the state parks.

I would have to say that arriving in the desert area from very green surrounding, I found it seemed "dirty" with the dust everywhere and "weedy".  It took awhile, long while really for me to adjust to it and see the beauty.  There is a culture shock value when you make a drastic change.

One of the years we were in the Tucson area, they had snow on Easter and it was the most awesome snow I had ever experienced!  Everyone was SO excited.  It had been something like 13 years since the last snow there.

I have also experienced the snow in Anchorage, AK in the winter.  Not a fan!
