Traded my Honda Ridgeline in for a Toyota Tacoma. I wanted the increased towing capacity, from 5K to 6500 pounds. I also wanted the increased bed and Toyota had 6 foot beds. Seemed like a good time, the 2024 Tacomas will be 4 cylinder turbo charged and I don't know if Id like 4 cylinder towing, not at these weighs. I snatched up a last 2023 from the dealer. I can't say anything bad about my Ridgeline. Would love to heard Toyota owners chime in! I still have a Honda in the garage right alongside the new Toyota.

New Tow Vehicle
I pull my 13 with a 2013 4 Runner (same running gear as the Tacoma), and it does great. I have about 150K on it, and the only real problem I've had with it is wearing out brakes a bit quicker than I'd like. I live on top of a mountain in the Blue Ridge, so I do probably use my brakes a lot more than I would if I lived in the flatlands. Whenever it's time to replace it (hopefully no time soon), I'll be looking for another just like it.

I grew up in the era when you wouldn't consider towing unless you had the largest v8 to have enough power. Of course trailers were a lot heavier then but this still affects my thought process about tow power.
I tow in the cascades with the 4 liter v6 and have plenty of power. I too wonder if the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder will handle the load.
to compare:
4l v6 has 236 hp
3.5 l has 278 hp
2.4 l has 278 hp
2.3 l ranger has 310 hp
I hope these numbers are accurate because i did find them on the internet. I suspect that the newer engine will perform well. I would also like to hear from others towing with new ranger for comparison.

4 cylinders are fine with most any average Scamp weight. What, 1,300 to 2,000ish? My loaded Deluxe comes in at 2,500. But when you get to the 5,000 to 6,500 range, I don't know about wanting a 4... Interesting the Honda Ridgeline has the 3.5 6 cylinder but a weight limit of 5,000. The Toyota Tacoma's (2023 and older) are also 3.5 6's but 6,500. The 2024 will be a 4 cylinder turbo (with no change in horse power) and 6,500 still. I believe Honda's lower weight limit has to be due to the unified body, a frameless design. Toyota's traditional frame truck design must be stronger allowing for the higher weight rating. Honda's also only have a 5 foot bed. The Tacoma's come in 5 or 6 foot beds. I opted for the long bed since I always put shells on my trucks for my dogs.
