I've posted twice before about my leaky Scamp. I had pretty much isolated the leak to the back left--knew it was between the belly band and the back light. Found a fiberglass place in Commerce City, CO and dropped it off today. Right away the guy noticed this fan of cracks on the back left right above the belly band that I had never seen!! Even my landlord who helped me with a leak test didn't notice them. One of you had asked about cracks, too!! Now they'll give me an estimate. If anyone has any thoughts please don't hold back!!:)

New Topic But Old Issue
If the leak is in this spot, I would say buy a 5 oz. tube of Lexel (clear) and seal the area. That could take care of it easily. I do not think you need a fiberglass specialist to work on it. Good luck!

Thanks, Paul. I don't want anything done that doesn't need to be done, that's for sure!!
If this is the source, what happened? Something or someone strike it? Is it superficial? If so then a cheap tube of some sealant may work. I did mention in one of your previous posts about cracks. Will it grow or weaken with road vibrations as it gets towed? A crack weakens the structure. You've seen windshield cracks on a car grow? Similar... That is the culprit in most any RVs demise over time- the road. A reputable fiberglass shop won't charge an arm and a leg... Send that pic to the support folks at Scamp. They would give you valid input into the structural issues as to where it's located. You know it's completely thru if it's your water source. How big is what you found? I hope you are on the road to a happy ending...

Thanks, Carl--I was thinking about making contact with Scamp tomorrow. The man who looked at it today at the Fiberglass place found the cracks right above where the leak comes in at the belly band. So he's thinking there is probably something going on in that area.
Scamp has fiberglass knowledge. They may tell you a lot confirming what your local shop told you... lots of time in that case, they tell you to get it fixed locally and they pay for it if it's a warranty issue. Good luck, please keep us updated as to the fix!

Thanks, Carl. It's a 2004 so I doubt they'll be able to do anything about it, but I'll definitely call them for their thoughts.
Looks like gel coat cracking, which is not uncommon in older FG trailers. If left unrepaired they worsen and will eventually leak through. Just coating it with sealer would be a temp fix. The fiberglass shop is the best solution for you to have this fixed permanently, Barb.
Many of us on the forum can do this type of FG/gel coat repair, but that isn't in your wheelhouse. I'd go with the FG shop and put this issue behind you.

Thanks for this, Greg--you're right that it's not in my wheelhouse!! I appreciate the different perspectives and ideas and now I'll just leave it to the pros and enjoy my 2004 for as long as I can--I'm pretty sure once I get the leak fixed it will be good to go and last longer than I'll be able to camp in it!!
