Just a few weeks ago I was driving on I-66 near Washington DC and I noticed a sign that said towing single axle trailers was prohibited. Fortunately, I wasn't towing but how would I have known to avoid that route? Are there other prohibited routes to be aware of?

I have always had the notion that truck and/or trailer signs were for commercial traffic only and are not for personal vehicles. I would love to hear others chime in or other thoughts on this. My thoughts too may change to from state to state unless the federal DOT has rules regarding this too standardizing it across state lines. If it's a safety thing that could apply, our 'rigs' wouldn't ever exceed a weight, length, height safety concern.

The road from Aspen to Leadville, CO is is 34 feet max both tow vehicle and trailer/camper ours is 32 feet so it was ok for us to travel this road.
In California Sequoia National Park south enterance is the same way and they watch that one everyday.

On this road the length restriction is due to the many sharp switchback turns. Longer rigs cannot make the turns so they risk blocking the road.
