What would you keep or change in your scamp?

And why does it work for you or not work for you?

I just thought something like this could help people who are looking for a scamp pick the perfect fit.

For me, ( it is just me using it) I have a 13' scamp with a bathroom, 54 in bed, single propane tank group 24 battery, electric brakes, and an awning.  No ac, no furnace, no T.V. no wireless brake control. The 13 ft is small but just right for me. Some may want bigger. I do live and camp in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

I would like the furnace. It can get chilly in Colorado and I like to boondock.

I would like to upgrade to the group 27 battery and led lights sometime soon. Also, I would like a wheel for my jack and a small generator.

I could have lived without the 54 in bed. I could have lived with more cupboard space.

I would not have gotten the awning. I bought my trailer used so it came with it. I don't use it.

The bathroom is a must for me. I would not consider a trailer without one. I don't like going elsewhere to find the toilet in the middle of the night. Portapotties can be a little gross to deal with. Just my opinion. Some have had the idea of a composting toilet. I have not formed an opinion on the composting toilet but could be a good choice. Could live without the sink in the bathroom though. The bathroom is the main reason I went with Scamp and not a teardrop. (some think it a waste) Before my trailer, I truck camped. (Camper shell.)

I am fine without ac or T.V. and would not change that but would like a radio.

Very glad to have electric brakes. I go up and down a lot of hills.

I would like to see a little more ground clearance. This puts a lot of limits on where you can boondock. Also, a different bathroom door because the screws strip. The door is heavier than I thought. Ballpark of 20ish lbs.I have not got around to weighing it yet just to see. I put up a nice shower curtain instead of the door. It would be nice if something else was done to protect the plywood flooring underneath. It does have a sealant on it to protect it. I can see why people say they rot out.

The weight of the trailer is well within my tow capacity of 3500lbs a real plus for me. With the shell on my truck I can put a few extra things in the bed.

I wouldn't change much

I ordered my 2022 Scamp Standard 13 with most of the available options...at least those I thought were a must.  I have the bathroom, but had Scamp swap out the toilet and black holding tank for the Laveo dry flush toilet, which I like.  I also have the sink in the bathroom, and even though it is a little crowded, I like it better than shaving, brushing teeth, etc. in the kitchen sink.  I didn't buy the TV package, but did have Scamp install the TV antenna, which works very well.  I installed my own 12 volt TV and stereo.  The glass top stove is nice and provides extra counter space when not cooking.  I ordered the outside step, although it is not necessary since the Scamp is low to the ground and I don't use it.  I have the outside grab bar, although I rarely use it...but I would keep it.  I bought the jack wheel but have never used it.  For safety, be sure to get the extra set of tail/brake lights, as they may help prevent a rear end collision.  I did not get the awning or outside shower...and don't miss having them. I'm happy with my Scamp the way it is.

THANK YOU

Thanks for sharing Mustang Cats. I have been wondering about that outside shower. Seems like one more thing to leak or go wrong...

We have a 2022 Standard 13,

We have a 2022 Standard 13, and like Mustangcats, ordered it with most of the options.  This is our 8th camper, so we pretty well knew what we do and don't use in a camper.  We opted for the front bunk layout, since we've never really used a bath inside the camper, even when we had a good sized Airstream with a good sized bath.  Space is too precious inside a 13' Scamp to give up any of it to something that is rarely or never used.  We have a PETT dry "flush" porta potti that works fine and folds up out of the way when not in use.  Everyone has different thoughts when it comes to the bath option, but that's our way of looking at it.

We did go for the outside shower and the tankless water heater.  We use this for washing dishes.  Very convenient, and it's also an OK way to wash the sand off at the beach.  We got the group 27 battery and solar panel, and this keeps the power going for us just fine so far.  The wider bed was a must, and is quite comfortable since we added a memory foam topper.  We got the AC, but will probably only use it if we go to the beach.  Nice to have though.  The MaxxFan is great, and is what we use most of the time for ventilation.  No TV anything.  We don't have one at home either.  We got the furnace, and have used it on a couple of cold mornings, but it's a lot of furnace for the small space.  The glass top stove is nice, and as mentioned earlier it provides some much appreciated counter space while not in use.  Same with the sink cover.  We got the double tail lights too.  We use our awning and are happy to have it.  I was afraid it would be too small, but it's fine.  Nice awning too--very quick to set up and take down.  I squish a piece of foam pipe insulation between the awning and the body of the Scamp to close in the gap.

Anyway, If I were ordering today, I can't think of anything I'd change.

THANKS

Have a 13' no bath on order so thank you very much for sharing your ideas on going without it. Appreciate your mentioning PETT, will research that. Are youstill happy with the solar panel? Has it held up and worked fine? Would you go with or without the furnace if you had it to do again? Good recommendation for the double tail lights!

Moving the thermostat soon

A week after buying a 2021 16 Deluxe 50th Anniversary trailer, I finally located the thermostat. It's not on the walls or cabinets, but tucked under the left hand end of the bed. A much-needed 3" memory foam pad covered up the thermostat, hiding it from me AND any possibility of air flow. This seems goofy and impractical, so I'm about to extend the two thermostat wires to reach a higher location - maybe the underside of a rear overhead cabinet, where it's easy to find and reach at night. Hard to believe no one in the Scamp factory has thought of this improvement in a half century!

The original thermostat location in Layout B is in a very busy location, where the cooktop overlaps the mattress. That's not my favorite design feature! Otherwise, I'm delighted with this, my second-ever Scamp. My last one, from the mid-'80s, needed everything redone.

WHAT UP WITH THAT THERMOSTAT?

So many people, on so many forums, have mentioned that crazy thermostat location. It may be a Scamp family tradition. The extra cost of wiring would be 75 cents...?

I did not think of using the outside shower for dishes.  I don't have an outside one.

Maybe, but...

I'd be cautious about dumping dish wash water on the ground at a campsite. Almost every campground would have some kind of critter nearby who would be drawn by the smell of meat or other tasty human food. And any place that didn't would probably have a rule against it.

Not everyone stays at a campground. That would likely be a county/state issue. I don't have an outdoor shower so not something I do.

I have a tank that I keep under my outdoor sink for collecting gray water.
