Replacing new siding windows with older style Jalousie type windows

Hi,

I just got my new 13' Scamp and was disappointed to see that the Jalousie type side windows on my 16' have been replaced with sliding windows.  I loved being able to keep my windows open when it rained, and now I can't.  I don't see any replacement parts for the Jalousie type window on Scamp's website.  Any ideas were to get suitable replacements?

Thanks.

Instead of replacing the

Instead of replacing the sliders, I'm planning on trying this on my 13' :  Awning for windows

Window awning on Casita

Hi Dave,

I found this video for a window awning for a Casita.  I think that explains it pretty well:

It's worth considering.  When you've made that upgrade, could you post pics please.

It won't be any time soon, but I will whenever I get around to it I'll try to.  I've had other campers with sliding windows and awnings above them that have done fine in the rain.  I can say from experience that the sliders in the Scamp with no awnings bring a lot of water inside!

We have a '74 13' SCAMP with jalousie windows.

About 1986, while living in the LA area, an intruder broke in and badly damaged one of the windows. Luckily, we found a replacement nearly identical to the original in a nearby hardware store.

When we refurbished this trailer for its 40th anniversary, we intended to replace the old-style jalousie windows with the contemporary sliding ones. But the newer sliding windows, because they have a different shape, do not fill the fiberglass cutouts of the jalousie windows. So we totally rebuilt, renewed and re-installed  the old jalousie windows!

We have "taken advantage" of having jalousie windows, in an interesting way.... Four tiny screws hold each of the two panels in place. By removing the lower panel, we are able to "sit" a small AC on the sill, and lower the top panel to hold it in place.  Voila: we have AC!

small AC

Wow! I'm impressed with you having your Scamp for 40 years!  It must have held up well. Post pics of it.

I'm curious as to what the small A/C unit is.  Those side windows are pretty small, I wouldn't think an A/C unit would fit.

2040 Parts Problems

Be careful with that 2040 Parts website. There’s a lot of info on the internet suggesting that it’s a fraudulent site.

I sure would like to find a reliable source for those louvered vents. My understanding is that they are no longer being made.

Oh, thanks for that heads up!  I did notice that those little vents were hard to find elsewhere.

Response to catdancing

The old-style jalousie windows in our '74 SCAMP are 24" wide x 18" high. Our "small AC" unit is 18" wide x 12" high (x 12" deep).

The story of our 40th anniversary renovation (with photos) was published in the SOI Newsletters: Winter and Summer 2014. (These are located under the Resources tab: SOI Newsletter - Club Updates Archives.)

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately I can't see your remodel in the 2014 news, I'm not a lifetime memeber.  But, thanks anyway!
