Has gas made it through the

Has gas made it through the pipeline, or is there still air to purge?  It took about 20 minutes for propane to reach the burner the first time, now it fires up the first time, every time.

Fridge Light

Before trying to light fridge, light a stove burner to make sure gas is flowing through the line.

There's a thermocouple near

There's a thermocouple near the flame that has to get hot enough to keep the burner going--when you turn the gas on, you probably have to hold in the knob at the same time.  This has to be held in for 30 seconds or so after it lights, or it will go right back out again. Holding it in overrides the thermocouple.  Once the thermocouple is hot and happy, everything is good.   All of the evaporative fridges I've had have been just a little finicky to start on propane.

definately

As you noticed the venting temps with the LP will be much hotter. The electric heating element is more efficient at  transferring the heat than the flame that has to transfer heat and have to exhaust the flame heat at the top of the boiler tube.  We use the 110 electric when ever possibles and the LP when needed.  Be careful to not run more than one heat source at a time as it happens easily when switching back and forth.
