Dometic RM 2022 fridge smells like burning when on 12V

Plugged in the fridge to 120v AC to cool and pack for our NYE trip down the coast.  Switched to 12v for travel and hit a store just 10 minutes away.  Opened Scamp to load fridge  and smell of electrical burning was obvious.  Turned off 12v and drove another 30 minutes to campsite.  Smell waned and gone after airing out at camp.  Fired up the propane  to test and fridge worked with no issues, noises or smells for two days.  If anything, it ran colder than usual, freezing our baby carrots on the bottom shelf.

Anyone have this issue before and thoughts on solutions?  Trailer is parked off-site now and have not had a chance to re-test the 120 AC but suspect it's OK.

Thanks!

Tim

re-test

Haven' had that happen, but standard procedure would be to verify the symptoms of the problem.  It could have been some temporary odor from initially heating up the 12V element.

outside

It is odd that the smell was noticed inside as the pencil heating element is actually in the insulated sleeve around the boiler unit and all this is in the outer access panel to the fridge . there are two pencil heater ( My Description ) in the same area. one for 110V and one for 12V and then the propane burner is at the very bottom of the same boiler.  As was mentioned  it could have ben something left in the tube or on the heater that was missed at assembly.  It is not easy but the heater can be removed after disconnecting it and opening the insulation sleeve but if it is possible it may be better to run it and see if the smell dissipates . all the time watching it carefully as the concern is the burning smell???  Maybe someone else here has better info or ideas. A real indepth look at connections for the switch and heater for over heating is needed too. the 12 volt heater used more than 10 amps and can overheat a poor connection.

smell stronger outside

Thanks for the input.  The smell was stronger outside however very noticeable inside.  Our last trip was October to Joshua Tree NP with no issues but always the chance for something or dust/dirt to accumulate where it shouldn't.   I'll check all connections and run the 12v again and see what happens and report back.  Thanks again, appreciate the feedback.
