Generator for Scamp 16

With the overload of reservations  on electrical camp sites I have decided to look at generators knowing the non electrical sites are typically open.  Looked at the various brands comparing sizes, specially seeking a quiet one, and of course, cost.  Never realized there were so many brands.  The Harbor Freight Predator 2000 has a decent review when compared to its Honda counterpart.   We want to keep the frig on electric, a c-pap sleep unit for hubs, and use of microwave and electric frying pan.  The frig is the one item running 24,  The 2000 has a surge use for 1600-2000.  What I can not determine or locate is the frig wattage.  Is there a member here familiar enough to advise if a 2000 would suffice.

Portable Generator

Hi!  I just bought a 2016 Scamp 13', and went looking for a quiet generator to take with me.  After a lot of research, I found this one at Amazon & I'm really happy with it. It's made by Pulsar, is a quiet four-stroke, puts out 2300W max and 1800W constant, and weighs 46 pounds. I hooked it up tot he Scamp and was able to power up everything, including roof-top A/C, fridge, and anything else I could turn on. I liked this one better than the Harbor Freight, although Honda is still the premier brand - but pricey.  Check this out:

generator use limitations

Keep in mind that some places prohibit the use of generators and others restrict their use to limited hours in the day. Some have restrictions on the amount of sound the generator produces when it is running as well. (You're already thinking of that by looking for a quiet machine.) Perhaps worth checking into the rules at some of your favorite places or others you were planning to visit to see what is allowed. If there aren't restrictions you're good to go, but it would be frustrating to get your rig set up to use with the generator and then find out you can't use it.

Shenandoah

We re staying at Shenandoah Nat PK Next month and there ar very limited areas where generators of any type are permitted and where they are, they are is limited to 2 hours in the AM and 2 hours evening and the DB max is 60 so A honda may not even qualify. Also  many non electric sites are also non gen sites. People with tents are potentially exposed to the exhaust from the generator and therefore not allowed or limited. So as already mentioned above check carefully before assuming. We will take our HF 2000 inverter to refresh the house battery if it seems to get low and suffer till the sun goes down if hot with Fans . We have nearly 200watts of solar I could take but a single 27 battery could not store enough to make that worth while. for an entire night of fridge or CPAP .

Solar Cells

I installed a 750 amp battery, a charge regulator, and a 220 watt Solar Cell in my Scamp 13.  I have all the energy I need, and it cost less than a generator to buy.  I have 5 USB outlets, and three 12 volt.  I have a 300watt inverter for 110v.

The solar cells charge the battery well even on a stormy day.  My cells are portable and fold up in a 2x2 foot by 1 inch package.  They weigh less than 10 pounds.  They are not mounted on the Scamp and I can place them up to 50 feet from it.  Park the Scamp in the shade, and put the cells in the sun.  The cells just plug into the side of the Scamp.

I take a cooler for ice and things that need to be that cold.  I will be connecting the car to the Scamp's electrical system so I can run the fridge on 12V while traveling.

large

750A is a very large battery and very heavy item do you have a manufacture or PT number I am interested in different ideas for off grid due to the new camping volumes. and Electric sites can be a real pain to reserve until people head back to the Hotels.

Amps or amp hours?

They are not the same thing. Many batteries will provide 750 amps, few do 750 Amp Hours.

8D

I can only think of something like a 8D starting battery for Old Catapilllars and large boats and huge House battery arrays for Prevost Bus type motorhomes and stand by power systems. I worked on a Prevost Bus motor coach that had 8 in the lower storage bay for house  power to two 4,000 watt inverters. . Crazy power
