2021 Scamp window blinds

I've recently read that Scamp was upgrading their window blinds to a thicker, less transparent material. Wouldn't be available until May. I'm anticipating delivery of my new 16' at the end of April, but would delay if better blinds were to be available. I've got back surgery next month, so not in a huge rush. Has anyone heard this? My Scamp sales rep was in the dark. Thanks!

Pleated shades

Someone posted a while back that Scamp is installing pleated shades in their 50th anniversary (2020) trailers.  Scamp's parts store does not show blinds or pleated shades.  You might call them and ask about options.  Casita has blinds available in their parts store if you want blinds.  I think pleated shades would be better than curtains at least on some windows (e.g., door).

Pleated blinds

I have a 2021 13' with the pleated blinds. I really like the way they work and look. I don't have experience with the curtains but I do like these. However, they are sheer which is delightful during the day and worthless at night. You can see right through them into the trailer. No privacy. They are supplied by a company called United Shade part of a larger company based in Elkhart, servicing RV manufacturers. They also produce a night shade with material that provides privacy and a black out material that does just what it sounds like. They also offer what is called a day-night shade that combines a lower section of sheer materials and an upper section of night shade material. You pull it down part way to have the sheer material and pull it all the way down to have privacy. These are micro pleated shades (3/4" I believe) and a compressed shade only takes up an inch or so.

I have been irritated that Scamp chose to not spend what would have been a truly minor expense to get the day-night shades. I'm glad to hear at least they are going for privacy. But the combination is the best option in my view. I am having new ones made. Costly but worth it to me.

You can order through Camping world and maybe other retailers. The exact sizing is on a sticker on the top of the blind. I can provide those for the 13' but don't know how that compares for the other trailer sizes.

Thanks for info on pleated blinds

Tom.  Thanks for the information on Scamp's pleated blinds.  It is great to get your review on the quality and transparency.  Thanks for reporting the manufacturer's name.  I have been looking at shades on RecPro ( https://www.recpro.com/rv-shades/).  I don't know whether they are a different manufacturer or carrying the same shades as United Shade.  They are expensive.  I don't like the curtains in our Scamp because they block part of the view when open, they are faded, and they let some light through.  The curtain on the door can only be pulled back a crack because there is not enough room.  The curtains may not be originals.  I would like to replace some of the curtains so I can have a good view out the windows when spending time in the trailer.

Unobstructed window views with blinds

You're welcome. The pleated shades when opened leave the window completely clear. I may lose a half inch across the top when I put in the day-night but nothing on the sides like curtains.

Once I get the new ones, I'd be happy to sell at a reasonable price the ones I have now from Scamp. Though after reading my previous post about why I'm replacing them, I'm not sure anyone will want them.

Added complexity/expense

Just keep in mind. Curtains are foolproof and extremely inexpensive to replace should the need arise. Can even change them out for seasonal decoration.  A few sections of heavy yarn, and you have tie-backs that completely (or nearly so) open up the viewing area of the window.

Pleated shades, while in "style" and the rage, are much more complex, much more prone to failure, and much more expensive to replace.

My preference is the "KISS" philosophy. For anyone who may not know (where have you been hiding?), that means "Keep It Simple Stupid".

Not that complex, but yeah

These are pretty simple pull down pleated blinds with a string under tension. They sell restringing kits in case you need that. But no question, curtains are simple and easily replaced. That said, I've read postings here complaining about flimsy brackets and curtain rods. Time will tell how the pleated ones hold up. KISS in general is a good approach!

I have never used such blinds

Oh, how I understand you. I never thought I would face such a problem as buying blinds and sun protection. Doctors forbade me to be under ultraviolet light and, generally, under the sun's rays. At first, this baffled me, but then I began to look for blinds and special tinting for the car. Everything was easy with the car; I found car window shades a special protection that does not need to be glued to the windows. This is very cool. But it is complicated to find good blinds; I haven't found anything worthy yet. Everywhere is terrible quality.
