Ready to order 13 foot Scamp! Few questions

Hello All,

After looking for several months for a used Scamp, we have decided to order a brand new one smiley Having 2 little girls under 4, the 13 foot will be perfect. We are picking the one without a toilet / shower. With that being said we have a few questions for you seasoned travelers.
What are some things you wished you had on your Scamp, what are things you could have done without? Scamp seems to be reasonably priced for their accessories, but the awning seems really expensive. Is this a special awning or can you just get a cheaper one later?
Thank you in advanced for your help. We are so excited!

Thoughts

The electric brakes are well worth the Money unless you are using a large tow vwhicle.  The power vent is great, We did buy the bath so the large bed would have made the floor space and missing cabinettes so very crowded and tiny. I am 5-11 and my wife is 5-4 and we are average build soit is not a lot of room but works with the standard .  We did not buy the AC but did spend the money to have all the infrastructure installed  in the event we added it later. added structure and the wiring is already there if we do add it. We do like the awning even tho it is pricey,  because the rounded Scamp needs special fillers and structure if you add something but some have done a wonderful job. Takes some imagination. A downer of the awning is that it does not sit on the roof so a 2 inch gap exists and rain can run down the side of the body. Very tiny  camper but we like it a bunch. We were able to do a trip to SCAMP and see the scamps waiting to be delivered on the lot and really touch and feel them before assembling final list of needs and wants.

My .2 cents for what its worth..

The '13 should fit your needs well, atleast until the kiddo's get a bit older.  Here's my take for what its worth.  Must haves in my opinion are Trailer Brakes, Gray Water Tank, Screen Door, and Fan.  Order as many lights, 110 & 12V plugs as you can.  Porch light in front helps with hooking up, exterior plugs are also handy.   I'm not a fan of roof top AC's, they increase your height and weight substantially, also very loud.  Your needs may very.  I do keep a portable AC around for those few weekends a summer when things get 95+ degrees outside, gets used maybe 2 days a years.  Awning is a tough one, I've tried doing some aftermarket jobbies on a few of our Scamps, nothing works as well or is as convenient as the Factory Awning.  I just can't stand how they look, so we prefer just using a Screen Tent rite outside the door.  If I was to order today, the biggest musts for us would be the "Big Bed" option, and "Curtain Delete".  Pretty cozy in the standard bed with 2 people, and our Golden Retriever Just pushes us over the edge.  The Curtain holders also add a BUNCH of extra holes in the shell, and they don't work all that well anyway.  I would find some other clever ways to cover the windows (many posts about this), and not have those rivets/holes all over the place.  We do most of our cooking outside, I would also not have a burner installed (if they would do it).   I would also get Tow Guards on your Receiver Hitch to keep rocks from chipping that new Gel Coat.  Enjoy!

visit

When we did the visit several months before we got confirmation we saw some cool places people wanted power plugs and lights. We too got all the interior and exterior lights offered.  The screen door is a must but you need to understand it can be messed up if you dont keep the bottom track clean and swept out. Would you go fridge and furnace. Both are marginal but have their place. fresh and gray watertanks. the tiny camper is overpowered by the furnace and a ceramic heater is often enough unless it is in the 30's but you need shore power for that..  The #27 larger battery is a Plus. if you are off grid Single propane tank works for us even with the fridge and furnace. I found a replacement tank by Worthington that has a real float gage for propane level. as running out is a bummer. The tiny fridge is only so-so. Over cools in cool weather and under cools in hot. So your choice there.  Again if you can find the time a visit would be a good ideal but a call to see if they will let anyone in right now It is a big investment and worth thinking it thru carefully. Hot water heater.another silly thing but awesome when camping in cold weather to have  warm water for hands and faces. but more stuff to maintain and winterize. But we came from a 26 foot Class "C" motorhome to a 13footer.
