I have a new 16' Scamp with a microwave oven. Several month ago when I was investigating Scamps one Scamp owner told me his microwave oven door popped open during towing and he found the rotating glass tray smashed on the floor. He replaced the microwave with another one that had a better door latch. Initially towing mine I had no problem, and didn't think anything of it, until the same thing happened to me. I found the glass tray on the floor and the microwave door had actually come unhinged at the bottom, which was easy to fix, and fortunately the glass tray was still intact. In the future, I'll tape the door shut when towing, as was recommended to me. I was driving on an interstate, but the road was in bad shape in places.
I just wondered how common this problem is. Have others run into this issue?
Unfortunately in the trailer and motorhome industry, RV industry in general the roads are bad at times and the doors and shelfs and fixtures move and rattle and it is a never ending challenge to keep up and improve on these issues. All three of my RV's in the past were all affected at times with hinge failures and plumbing connections that failed and caused It is part of the experience and can really test your skills to recover at times. All of the nice conveniences like our Microwaves and TV's and sound systems were built to sit on the counter at home so traveling down the Pot holed road in a 2,000 trailer at 60MPH finds the weak links. . Sad but My take on it all. . All we can really do is share our experiences and fixes and hope for some fun times.

Okay, you make good points. I'd mention this to Scamp (the microwave door popping open) and they said they'd never heard of such a thing. I just felt there had to be others with this experience.
Thank you for sharing your perspective. Much appreciated.
Well, it's probably not exactly the door itself that's the problem. Most likely it's the turntable which is both "heavy" and not secured. We had the same problem first time out and realized that we needed to secure the turntable. At this point we always remove it, wrap it in a towel, and put in a lower cabinet while we're under way. Others have made a soft "wedge" out of a pool noodle or somesuch to keep the darn thing from flying loose. I suspect that if you secure or remove the turntable, the door will stay shut.
I did put a bungee cord over the whole microwave to keep the unit from jumping out of it's space; please note that this is another idea from the forums. At any rate, we've had no more problems from our really inexpensive microwave from Lowe's.
