New 19' 5er

Hello all,

Been following this great forum for a while now.  Thought it's time to muster up some courage and write something of my own.

Me, my wife and our one-year-old will be picking up our 19' 5er Standard in Backus sometime around April 2019.

We are planning on traveling the Americas for 2-3 years (or until the little guy needs something more stable).

We chose the Standard mainly cause we liked the idea of having the option of the bunk bed as a permanent bed for the little one without having to convert the dinette regularly.  The other reason is we liked the open space and the idea of being able to sleep in both directions in the loft (the full shower option blocks the edge of the bed making it too short for comfort)

The other big decision we went with is a shower-only wet room.  We are planning on adding a Natures-Head composting toilet in the wet room.

We've got loads of dilemmas and questions we would like to ask you guys here on the forum, but I think that will be left for follow ups.

We will leave this one as a "Hello and thank you for having us on your forum and as fellow Scampers".

Thanks all, and happy camping!!!   yes

Welcome

Seems like you have done your homework. I like the std. 5er the best. The other big plus is the heat and A/C is not blocked the front bath.

First Post

I am a new member and this is the first 5er post that I have found. We are looking to down size to a 5er and I really appreciated the comments in the post.  These will be helpful in our floor plan decisions.  This sure looks like a terrific site and full of friendly folks.................  Tom

Welcome

Hi Tom,

Glad you joined in the clubhouse.

If you enter Scamp 19 in the search box it shows about 10 pages of related posts. Hope that will help, and just ask away any questions you may have.

welcome from another 5er

Welcome hugo and tom

I think you will enjoy your scamp 19. They tow very easily and maneuver well. It is amazing where i've been able to get parked at times. The choice of the standard over deluxe models sounds like a good decision for your family.

Mine is a deluxe floor plan A. My decision was made by craigs list. That was the deal that came my way and I couldn't turn it down. I do enjoy having the larger bathroom but could certainly have made do with the smaller version. As Eddie said the deluxe bathroom can block airflow (ac/heat) to the upper sleeping area but I have never felt that affected us much. We don't camp in hot weather and I carry lots of sleeping bags for warmth.Only being able to sleep in one direction is probably( IMHO) the downside to the deluxe. I'm 5'-9" and always have either my head or feet against the wall. We have gotten used to it now but it took some time.

It is always fun to meet other scamp owners and discuss the merits of our trailer setup and personal touches we've added. It would be boring if everyone had the same setup. You can also expect to attract attention from passersby anywhere you stop. This comes with Scamp ownership so be prepared. I'm always ready to provide tours when we stop. We have met some very fun/interesting people this way.

Enjoy your new scamp and I hope to run into you somewhere down the road.
