Scamp Door Hinges

I have a 2014 Scamp that I purchased from the factory.  In my excitement I didn't notice that the door hinges were installed in an off vertical position.  After arriving home I posted two e-mails to Scamp about this problem but never received a reply.  Its a long tow from Pennsylvania just to show up at the factory so I went on with my life assuming the position was correct, certainly they would be installed following a template.  It just couldn't be a bad day on the factory floor.

Now im thinking about a new door and wondering if predrilled holes will match my hinge placement.

Has anybody seen this problem?

Workmanship!

After purchasing our new 2015 13' Scamp I found several issues that showed poor workmanship. It was disappointing for me to see that at least some of the workers that build these trailers just don't give a s--t. I do feel that that is an issue with some of the other brands also. Not just Scamp.

Our Scamp has poorly mounted crooked door hinges also. Because the actual friction surface of the hinge is a ball I don't think it will cause a problem being mounted that way. It just doesn't look good! Just another example what I said above!

Yes, I do agree with your

Yes, I do agree with your comments about workmanship.  There were several immediate issues that I needed to deal with right out of the factory.  Simple things that just didnt need to be a problem and could have easily been avoided.  Their lack or response,  ignoring my e-mails reflects poorly on the owners and not only the floor workers.

When somebody is curious about my Scamp I tell them about the benefits but impress on them that they should not expect craftsmanship.

That does look odd . Is there

That does look odd . Is there any chance it is actually correct because of the round shape and oddly shaped door and opening? There are times with odd angles that straight is not your friend and puts things in a bind at certain opening positions. ( Just asking )

Yes that was my first

Yes that was my first thoughts, really nobody would be that sloppy but if that were the case it would be duplicated on the others that were manufactured.  Its just poor workmanship, bad quality control, and unresponsive management.

Craftsman

I remember when I had gutted and was redoing my 1981 13 all the cutouts for the cabinets and drawers looked like they let the 5 yr old grandson loose with a sabre saw. I would be embarrassed if I owned the company, but it has never seemed to phase them or the customers as they keep selling.

Now, I just redo the sloppy stuff if its redoable, and chalk the construction style up to eccentric.

Hell is relative

I think all RV manufacturers have quality construction issues here and there.  I went with a friend to see the new Airstream Nest 16' when it was first released.  Only two were shipped into Michigan, so we drove to Traverse City to see them.  $45,000!!!!  A lot of style, not much substance.  The kicker was the bathroom door--it was hung crooked and didn't shut properly!  She ended up getting a Scamp 16' for less than half the price, and it has more room than the Nest.  Once she redecorates the interior, it will be every bit as stylish too.
