Just wanted to tell everyone that has orfered a new scamp or has one several years old that you mght want to check under the stove top...Lost a screw under ours and hubby top stove top off to retrive it and there was lots of crud under there from when they installed it.nothing major but you know how workers are and you might want to check it out and clean it up if you find anything...We have been 2450 miles and saw only one Scamp the whole time and that was at a fiilling station in Many Farms Arizona,I talked to them for just a moment ,they are from PA state.Couldnt talk long as there were two drunks trying very hard to get money or something to drink and would not take no as an answer. I would not recomend this place to anyone as the people inside could see what was goiing on very clearly,these two were very agressive towards everyone that would not give them anything,the one was so drunk he wanted hubby to stick the gas nossle in his mouth for a drink,said he could handle it......not a good thing at all

This is why my bride locks her purse in the car, out of sight. I also have a CCW, and carry. I do not ever wish to pull it out, but feel if I am pressure to do so, well....
It's a crazy world out there and one must be ever present of their surroundings and those around you!

Yes Doug we do that very same thing,we both carry but have never had to pull one out,but a person does need to be prepared. Its just the world we live in today,sad but true. Have safe travels

I was reading through this thread again and thinking about it and we saw more of this "behavior" where people were approaching and begging in the SW than the other places that we have been, the south and central areas of the US. Hope that isn't offensive. One thing that many people don't realize is how different some areas can be. AZ was a total culture shock for me, originally from MI and having traveled quite a bite before going there. It was a whole different world to me in so many ways.
When I walk with the dogs now, I carry a million volt (I think that is the measure) stun gun since we had 2 pit bulls come after our dogs. At the time of the attack, I just had a knuckle blaster stun gun but it was enough to slow the dogs down. I could not get a good contact but enough to keep their mouths off my senior dogs necks. My dogs never became aggressive but the others would not back off.
We like the stun guns. Usually we can just fire them off and send a dog running (I think they end up in China with that kind of speed). The new ones really have a look that tells you to think twice about whether you want to find out what they can do. They aren't legal everywhere but seem to be most places.
If you are going to be traveling in unfamiliar areas, it pays to think through possible scenarios and have a plan of action. It isn't the 1950s anymore.
I don't like beggars and won't give them any money. We do get them here now. I guess it is a career that is taking off. : (
And, without a top notch final inspection, screws and sawdust can often be found just about anywhere in an RV. I worked for a 5-star fifth wheel manufacturer and you would not have found anything like that since there was a checklist that the inspector went through after the unit was finished and they also had a "rain booth" that units were ran through to make sure they did not leak. It was a good solid unit. Unfortunately, they changed hands and...............

Oh CAthy that would have had me terrified if some dogs came after ours...I am not a shoot happy person but could protect myself or our dog if need be. We do not give people who ask for money but have fed a few over the years I will buy someone that is hungry a meal but will not give cash.You are so right when you said,its not the 50s anymore. As much as we love our new Scamp,they must not do a run thru after being built to leave that much stuff under the stove top and also our inverter to charge our battery when plugged into home electric was not plugged in either,both should have been checked out I would think :-)

Do check to see that the states you travel in recognize your state CCW permits. I'll probably renew my state permit when/if I start traveling alone. I'm a staunch believer in self protection vs victimization.

Even if they do recognize your permit, you have to comply with each state’s rules. So, you have to learn A LOT of different laws.
For example, in North Carolina, concealed handguns may not be carried:
It’s the sign one that stops most otherwise legal carry. It seems that very many businesses decided they need to prohibit permit holders from coming in their store with a gun. And there are a lot of other gotchas to watch out for in smaller jurisdictions.
And as we have seen in some high profile cases recently, just because you had a legitimate right of self defense does not mean that you will not be charged, have your reputation smeared in the media, and basically have your life ruined. Its so much better to avoid trouble if you can, but if you must use a firearm, remember it’s better to be judged by 12 than carried by six.
