Trailer lift on a 13' Scamp

Just thought I would share put a body lift on my 13' foot Scamp I know the axle height will stay the same but was looking for more clearance for back bumper for driveways and boondocking.

Its a 3 1/2 lift purchased it from etrailer.com and gained 3 inches now on bumper at "16 inches now after lift. Not hard to do just four bolts it did take me 2 hours not a fast worker its all about garage time LOL

I should mention at the highest point on Scamp (Fantastic Fan) we have no A/C is 92 inches this will not fit under a standard garage door of 7 feet, I Changed my door out to an 8 foot door before we purchased our Scamp back in 2017.

How does it drive after the lift...

Have you tried any quick lane changes to see how it handles?  Any tendency to sway?

Been mulling over the same kit, and wondering how much affect the higher center of gravity has.  Thanks for posting!

I would suggest a few hundred

I would suggest a few hundred mile tow beforehand and give a good shake down especially with all the bouncing

I have the lift kit

I have the kit on a 16' along with 14" tires and have put on several thousand miles with out problems. I did need to trim one of the wheel wells for 14' tire clearance, the two sides were not the same. (Note also that some Scamps have a center floor support welded to the axle.)

Thanks ac0gv, I'm wondering

Thanks ac0gv, I'm wondering if the 13' might take to a lift differently than the 16'.  Thinking the 16' may have less side-to-side tilting due to more axle capacity to trailer weight ratio.

Just a thought

We dont want to make the mistake of putting a lift kit on a trailer to compensate for an axle whos life has expired. as the rubber  suspension part of these has a definate life expectancy and does little to cushion the ride if the rubber is flat.  This a great reason to lift our trailers off the ground once the season is over. This drastically extends the rubber life

True

But the above axles are all bolt on and 5 or less years old. The old  "dead" axles are more likely 20 years old and welded on.

absolutely

Yes and that makes good sense but it could be easy for an older trailer owner to see this as a easy fix.yet not a good one.  Just thinking out loud/in print

Bolt on axle change

Some time in 2010 is when Scamp went from welded to bolt on axles. The change to the rear facing axle on the S-13's has been hard to nail down. Also keep in mind when you raise the axle you will also have to raise the ball on your hitch.

lift kit After 3,000 mile trip ?

Just got back from 3,000 mile trip with Scamp lift kit everything went well no issues. Took it to Maybell, CO Sand Wash Basin mild off roads boondockin also did well at highway speeds of 70 mph no swaying tracked great.

Only issue is if you have a 7 foot high garage mine with lift is now 92 inches (no A/C unit) hope this helps.

Have Scamp will travel !
