Electrical Q - Main fuse (DC)

A previous owner tore out most of the DC system on my trailer. Is there typically a main DC fuse where power enters the trailer on these? If so, what amperage?

im just wrapping up rewiring - ran 8AWG main DC leads, 10-12 AWG circuits to each appliance and zoned lights. Trailer was single 10AWG circuit for everything when I got it.

Thanks in advance!

Fuse

John,

In the older Scamps there is a 30A inline fuse located in the battery box.

30 A

I believe there is still a Main 30Amp inline inside  the battery box on our 2019 13

2019 Scamp 13 standard

You should ALWAYS put a

You should ALWAYS put a proper fuse as close to the battery terminal as possible.  There is even a type that mounts right on the battery post, but one within 6-8 inches is just about as good. 30 amp is likely the right value but I would not assume that without seeing the entire rewiring.  Esp, if there a power panel (fuse block) inside, what wire is used from battery to it what is the rating of the panel, etc. It sounds like you used heavier gauge then required however so again, 30 amp is likely fine but no promises sight unseen.

I understand there is often as second fuse inline shorty past  the point where the main battery power comes into the camper.  If this was not removed in the gutting then it might be a little hard to find.
