Your choice, small or large fridge?

So we ordered the small 1.9 cu ft fridge, but recently we are wondering if we should upgrade to the larger 4.6?  Do you feel that the larger unit is a better choice than the smaller or do you like the additional storage/cubby hole you get with the smaller unit?  Any mechanical issues with either model? Is the addiotional 12v use of the smaller fridge practical?

Fridge

I've always wanted the large fridge. Had the small one in a Scamp 13 and now have 6 cu in both of my current trailers, wouldn't go back to that little one unless I had to. Really depends on how you are going to camp, but a 3 cu ft difference is quite a nice upgrade.

12v fridge operation will drain a battery really fast. I can travel using the 12v on the 19 Escape if I wanted to, but it has twin 6v batteries and 160W Solar panel on the roof. Even with all that it wouldn't be able to sustain 12v operation very long unhitched. Generally you'll find the electric or propane modes on the fridges are the ones you'll end up using.

Larger fridge

Absolutely! Get the larger fridge! Long stays out in the Scamp are so much easier with a larger fridge. The Scamp is small enough in so many ways, get the larger fridge. We have it and just love it and cannot imagine a smaller one.

smaller is fine with me

Guess Im the odd one out here on the fridges. I dont mind the smaller one,I guess it depends on how much you really want to tow around with you.Hubby would like the larger one(what for I dont know} I like the little storage I have underneath the small one,I can keep alot down there. I dont take a lot of food fr om home when we go out and we do carry a cooler, which I always think is more stable then the fridges in hot weather. Like Greg said,we keep ours on propane most of the time, seems to work better then the others

I got the small fridge, for

I got the small fridge, for how we camp, it is fine. We do not stock up on food for the two weeks, we buy as we go. I use the 12V while we are moving between campsites. You do not use it while you are not hooked up to tow. when you get to campsite you switch to propane or shore power elec. Carl

Dometic

I owned several 80's Scamps with working Dometic friges. Parts are high. $40+ for plastic freezer door hinges. Looks like Dometic and Lippert are trying to buy out all the smaller RV mfgs.
