Where to Buy Propane?

Where to buy Propane?

This question was asked in another thread and I thought the answer deserved a thread of it's own.

Where you buy propane depends on if you need your own tanks refilled, or if you need to exchange a tank at a propane tank exchange center.

If you choose to use the exchange programs, realize that those tanks are not refillable. Many Exchange programs are now using proprietary valves which preclude them from being refilled by anyone other than the Tank Exchange Company. Also realize that the tank exchange companies sometimes fill their tanks with less than the full 20# of propane.

If you decide to keep your own tanks and have them refilled there are several nationwide options for you to choose from. First, find a filling location close to home so you can start your trip with full tanks. If you need to re-fill while you are on the road here are my top three choices: Camping World ($0.25 discount/per gallon on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for Good Sam Members), Pilot/Flying J Truck Stops (many have Propane Refill Stations check their website for locations with Propane), U-haul (many of the larger locations have Propane Re-fill Stations), additionally, many hardware stores, gas stations and farm equipment stores in small towns have Propane Re-fill Stations.

If you choose to use a Tank Exchange program, exchange locations are available at many Convenience stores, Lowes and Home Depot locations and many Gas station/Convenience store locations.

As Always,

Happy Scamping !!!

Propane

We ended up in a fairly small town in southeast Ks and needed propane. No one in town sold it other then to exchange tanks and we werent going to do that.We just suffered thru till we went to the next place that a Co-Op and got our tank filled. Had to take the tank off because their hose would not reach, which kinda shocked us as we used to just pull our motorhome up to a spot and they filled it, course that was years ago,it was a pain because hubby of course didnt bring the right tools to undo it from the tongue (he took care of that when we got home} since it seems its going to have to come off every time we need propane. And thanks about the info on the discounts at Camper World,we didnt know that but will use that info in the future for sure
