Tech Classes

FYI, I know I hear from time to time that folks struggle with the modern technology and how to operate some of the current gadgets, cameras, smartphones and computers. I know I'm in the last of the generations that didn't grow up with these devices in our home or schools.  surprise

Our local library from time to time offers free computer, photography, and even smart phone classes which is a tremendous resource folks may not be aware of.

I.E. Here is the ad for their latest Windows 8 class at our library:

Windows 8 Basics

Having trouble using Windows 8 or just want to learn some new tips and tricks to help you get around easier? Sign up for our 3-week workshop! Learn everything from how to navigate your start screen to updating and installing programs. Bring your own Windows 8 device, whether a tablet or laptop. You must be familiar with basic computer operation (powering on/off, mouse movement) to attend this class.

This is a tremendous resource and just ask your library if they offer these types of classes on any of the topics you might want to learn more about.

Also, if you are considering buying or already have an iPhone or iPad ,for a nominal fee they offer an annual ability to attend classes for your device at their store locations. I've heard from some friends that these are really good classes as well.

Add on to this post if you have additional resources you know about in your area.

Not Tech-Type

I am not a tech-type but my husband is.  We have flip-phones and just purchased 2 Chromebooks.  Love the Chromebooks as they are SO much less of a hassle.  We don't  do "fancy" stuff anyway so this works great for us.

Wanted to mention that on the forum, if you want to use the private message feature, you have to make sure that it is checked off on your profile page.  If yours isn't working, go to your profile page and push "edit" and go down the page and you'll find the option to receive private messages.  I learn by trial and error.  I don't like "classes".  I figure "Push this buttom?  What's the worse that can happen?"  That actually works much better with just the flip-phone and the Chromebook since my husband doesn't have to untangle the disasters I created with Windows but challenge is good for the mind.

I teach classes at our local library on bothan  Introduction to Digital Photography as well as an advanced class, and Editing with Photoshop Elements.  I've also taught a couple of classes during rallies (most at the Oregon Gathering) on Night Time Photography & Inverters.

If you are putting together a rally, you might consider asking participants if they are willing to put togetrher a class in their areas of interest.  I have often seen RV related workshops such as a dutch oven class, but rarely technical ones.  Lots of us have developed interests & capabilities in technical areas & it would be good to share them.
