Scamps in WI

We are really excited to get a scamp (still searching for one in the Midwest otherwise we'll order new at the end of summer) however my husband has never been inside one and he'd really like to check one out before we buy (he's 6'7 and is fine having to duck but wants to check out whether or not he could sit at the table etc).  Does anyone here have one in Wisconsin or eastern MN that would be willing to let us check it out?  We'd wear masks and follow any/all covid protocols obviously.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Interior height of a Scamp...

I am always happy to see someone looking for a Scamp but I also feel obligated to "tell it like it is". I am 6'3" and cannot stand up straight in my 13ft. Scamp. I'm not sure what they come from the factory at but mine is 5' 11 1/2" floor to ceiling (the last owner added a tongue and groove wooden floor).  I don't have a shower in mine but that would obviously present the same issue. I have NO PROBLEM sitting at the table, on the couch or any other activity in there. Good luck and maybe I'll see you on the road somewhere!

Please excuse me...I need to go camping now

WI scamp

Hi,

thank you for offering to let us see your scamp! We actually ended up purchasing one but now we're a bit confused as to whether or not it needs a plate (RV Trailer vs Trailer under 3000lbs category on the DMV form.  Did you need to register your scamp?

thanks!

Wisconsin plate

I think you are in Wisconsin. If so Wisconsin says TRAILERS under 3000 are optional registration, but Scamps are RVs not trailers.

Registration in Wisconsin so confusing

I read and re-read the DOT website and got more confused. I finally decided that it is only $15 and while I doubt I'd have an issue if I was supposed to register it and didn't, I know there won't be an issue if I don't need to but register it anyway.

Enjoy your Scamp!

Recreational vehicle trailer, it needs to be titled and licensed

Subject: Scamp RV trailer registration

I would like something in writing that says that I do not need to register a Scamp RV  trailer in Wisconsin. It is under 3000 lbs.

Thank you for using the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s website.

If this is a recreational vehicle trailer it needs to be titled and licensed no matter what the weight is.

Per Wisconsin statute 341.05(13m), registration is optional for trailers or camping trailers weighing 3,000 pounds or less when loaded.  (This does not apply to recreational vehicle trailers, i.e. hard-sided travel trailers or trailers used for hire or rental.)

The statute states that these vehicles are exempt from registration.  However, it is recommended, that a plate be applied for if the trailer is to be operated in another state.

We also recommend that you apply for a Wisconsin title for a trailer of any size so you have a proper ownership document if/when you sell the trailer.  By applying for a Wisconsin title you would be eligible for a replacement title if the document is lost, stolen or mutilated. Most trailer manufacturers will not issue a replacement Certificate of Origin after a few years.
