My RV television weighs only three ounces !

Well… I sold my pop-up camper today and I have an order in at Evelands for a 16 standard, Layout 4. It should be ready before October 1.

So… while I wait, I thought I would try to pay back a little for all the great information I have found on this forum and tell you about my 3 ounce television!

If you are like me, you were drawn to the Scamp in no small reason because of the light weight. And maybe like me, you also become very weight conscience when equipping and loading the trailer.

I always take my laptop computer on the road and it works well for playing movies or other downloaded videos, but without internet I miss being able to catch up on the news. In addition, sometimes I just want a live TV distraction.

Enter the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-955Q USB stick…  with this device, and either the included software, Windows Media Player or software from third party, I get off-the-air HD television on my PC. It even has PVR (scheduling and recording) functions!

Now to be honest, it would often be easier to have a small TV mounted in the RV, and the USB stick is not much less expensive than a minimal TV.  But it saves a few pounds and because I store my laptop in the locked car, it is one less thing for someone to steal from the trailer.   It might not be for everyone, but it is an alternative way to get television while on the road. Hauppauge has other products available and there are also similiar devices from other manufactureres.

Now I need to figure out what antenna will work with a fabric cover for the “not so soon to be mine” Scamp.

Welcome

Glad to have you in the clubhouse!  Congratulations on your Egg order. October will come really fast and you'll be shaking down the new trailer.

I use the Hauppauge 1191 WinTV-HVR-955Q USB TV Tuner For Notebook as well in our house and on the road. Great product. Got rid of cable TV about 6 years ago and have been using this and windows media center for a free TIVO system. This little device works great in the campgrounds as well, especially when they provide cable.

We are behind in technology

We are behind in technology and mounted a TV above one of the seats on the side dinette. As the wall is only 1/8 inch thick, I had used a 3/8 inch thick cutting board as a doubler for the back side.  The back side is in the shower area but unlikely to get wet as it is mounted rather high. Stainless hardware was used of course. I got a full articulating mount and it works great. Anyone sitting in the dinette area is not at all bothered by the TV. We swing it out, angle it down some, and enjoy cable or our blue ray player! We are all set now and love it.
