Our built-in microwave went out on our last camping trip. It worked the first night, but at breakfast the next morning.....nothing. I haven't pulled it out yet, but have checked the AC circuit and everything else is working OK and all fuses are good. So, I go to Amazon to look for a replacement microwave, thinking I'll pick up one for less than $50. But, to my surprise, RV microwaves are rather pricey!!!
What's up? Are RV microwaves "special" in regards to increased engineering & construction to allow it to take all the bouncing around? Or, is this another way to get a bit deeper into our pocket. The latter, my cynical mind says.....but.....am I wrong. Are RV microwave ovens 'different'?

Our Walmart microwave is very happy in the "Lil Critter" which was born on Nov 18, 2005 and has rolled 212,000 miles. This is the second one. First one lasted 4 years then turntable gear failed. This one is still working fine.

There are really no RV micro wave ovens per say. We have a dated micro wave we inherited as we purchased a lightly used like new Scamp. Just get a small micro wave that fits and enjoy. No need to go on line, just go to Wal Mart and score one.

We use a small ("half pint") portable microwave. Most of the time (in good weather) it sits outside the trailer. I have installed an exterior outlet near the door, where we set up a small table...and do a lot of our meal preparation.
