Lil Critter's 2014 Winter Scamp-about

We have been on the road since Jan 2nd.  Four days in cold Fallon, NV with family.  One night in Beatty, NV (warmer than home or Fallon).  Finally got to Lake Havasu, AZ  (NICE!!!)  A couple of days in warm Yuma, AZ (first time there when the wind was not blowing) and we are finally thawed out.  I even removed the long johns!!!

Tonight we are in Las Cruces, NM.  As expected, it is cool high country here but we are only overnighting.  It is not like Greg and Janea suffered during their Escape shake down cruise!  We were thinking of going up to Show Low, AZ but decided that would be like going back home to Susanville....COLD!!...so we are staying south.

We will be in Uvalde, TX tomorrow and will cruise the roads of South Central Texas for a while.  Bev will be using a lot of yellow highlighter again giving me credit for pulling the Lil Critter on new (to us) roads on our maps.

Saw a Scamp 13 and one of those Texas Scamp wannabes (ducking my head!!!) on I10 headed west.  Figured they could be Quartsite earlybirds.  Any one from here?

Made it back home in time for

Made it back home in time for Bev to prep for her Red Hat doings.  YAH!

Got to travel some roads in south central Texas.  LOTS of oil/gas well activity happening there.  Roads full of rig maintenance trucks!!

Next, went a little north and across central LA.  Stayed at a nice Casino in Marksville, LA for a couple of days due to a snow event.  (We do not get on the roads in the southern states when it snows....those folks just do not have good snow tires on their cars/trucks....lots of ditch activity happening!  LOL)

A few days later we landed in Milton, FL which is a little north of Pensicola and hunkered down in a KOA Kampground for a forecasted ice storm.  I had never experienced one of those so I stayed up and watched it develop.  WOW!  Quite a sight to watch it rain and the drops turn instantly to a sheet of ice on what ever the drops land upon.  In no time, our car was encased in a heavy shiny, clear coating.  I now understand how airplanes that get caught in one of those events are instantly in serious trouble.

After hanging out at the KOA for a couple of days so that I felt safe that those southern tires would hang on to the roadway, we headed to our original destination for this trip, a little place on the central western coast of Florida called Cedar Key.

Unhooked the Lil Critter and toured the area for four days which is unusual for this Scamp family.  After hooking The Lil Critter back on to the car, we did a bunch of roads in central Florida.

Headed back west after having dinner with some friends and checking out the Scamp Camp at Highland Hammock State Park at Sebring, FL.

The weather was forecasted to be good in east central AZ so we drove to the Show Low area and I got some yellow highlighter on the roads on the AZ map that we have been missing.  Nice country, FT Apache was an interesting area.  We stayed at the Fool's Hollow State Park suggested by Greg.  As they said, it is a nice place.

Putted on home without too much weather problem even tho a series of storms were forecasted for NV and our area of CA.

Trip totals were...58 days, 10,300 miles on the car and 9,800 miles on the Lil Critter.  Our Lil Critter has 191,100 miles on her tow bar and is still holding up nicely.  LOVE THAT 13' SCAMP!  She enables us to afford to travel as many roads in the USA and Canada as we can before we get too old to enjoy the trips.

Awesome!

I enjoyed reading your post, sort of making the trip in my mind, a needed escape from the snow covered roads and single digit temparatures.  I'm certainly impressed with Lil Critter.

Hey Bob & Bev

Wow, what a trip!  Being an old University of Miami fella I'm acquainted with the Cedar Key spot.  Gorgeous place to hang out in the winter. laugh  Glad you got to Fools Hollow since your last Show Low experience wasn't up to snuff.  You were about 10 minutes from our digs in Lakeside so you know where you can come park the Critter for awhile if you head that way.

I agree with your assesment of the 13 Scamp.  We still miss ours, but it does write home once in awhile.  Hope to catch up with you soon.

Keep on Scamping!
