Well, while getting our trailer winterized I had the technician install a anti sway hitch device on our Scamp tongue. It has made a dramatic difference in towing, even being passed by big trucks who do not have to obey posted speed limits! I sure was wrong about the Scamp not needing a anti sway hitch. It truly was swaying much of the time when towing. No more! And, it was rather inexpensive too!
I towed my father's 16 with no sway bar hooked up on a 2.5 hour trip and there was considerable sway at higher speeds. Obviously how it is loaded matters but there is plenty of tongue weight with front bath, dual propane and battery out front. I then towed it last week for 7 hours out to the Lake Erie area with the sway bar and it was much better. Only a small amount of sway on steep descents at higher speeds. Definitely a worthwhile investment.

Yeah, my first season of towing I convinced myself I did not need a anti sway device. As time went by, I began to notice a significant amount of sway, especially large trucks passing, and sometimes moving quicly back in my lane. The new anti sway hitch works wonders. Also easy to,remove when I must back into a spot.

Doug: Who manufactured your anti sway hitch? Just wondering as I couldn't tell from the photo. We have the Equalizer for our pop--up which is 2,000 plus lbs and even then, it made a big difference towing with versus without. Some people give up towing because of the sway not realizing what a difference you can realize with the right equipment. I can tell you are already getting a very early case of spring fever though!

Thanks, Doug. I am familiar with that name and know it has excellent reviews. The problem with the thing we got from Equalizer is it was heavy when it was delivered, I had to take pieces out of the box, still too heavy and then I just had to drag the box in. This one is interesting and not so heavy or expensive either. We had gotten the Equalizer because we had one when we had a travel trailer some years back.

Wel, this one is so small but works so big! A ball had to be welded to our hitch we slide into the receptacle under the bumper. Sure works great, very light and easy to,remove when we must back in or turn sharply.
