Hi I'm Steve & 16' Layout 3

Yesterday I started reading posts on this forum and I'm very impressed with your club.  I am pleased to now be a member!

Presently I am in the market for a 16' Scamp, either new or used.  My TV is a 2011 Honda Odyssey. Two days ago I had a hitch, a brake controller, and, a trans fluid cooler installed.  So now the tug is ready!

Not sure of the price of a standard 16'  Layout 3 as prices aren't on the Scamp Website.  This is the layout with no shower or toilet and has a table near the sofa/lower bunk.  Because I'll mostly boondock by myself or camp in primitive sites with just tables and outhouses I think I'd like the openness of layout 3 and not having to dump black water.  Options I think I'd like are as follows:

Sani pott                                                     1.9 Cu ft refrig

3 speed roof fan                                          10' Awning

Screen Door                                                Outside step

Grey Water Tank

If you are familiar with Layout 3 please comment on its plusses and minuses.

Another possible way for me to go is buy a used Scamp, even though they aren't easy to find close to Southern California.  If so, I'd probably end up with a toilet and shower, I'd guess that is mostly what is for sale.  And, with used I'd want the side dinette.  Buying used has the caveat of being able to get a nice 16' for hopefully about 10k or less, always nice to hold on to some of the cash on hand!

If I go new I need to limit the expense to 15k (including tax), that's my max budget.  Also,I'm not a handyman kind of guy so I need a trailer that can give me good service without my tinkering too much.

One question for you, do you think I can get a new 16' layout 3 with the above options for 15k or less?

Thanks for reading this post and I look forward to participating in this club.

16' Standard, Layout 3

Hi Steve;

Welcome to the club.  Glad to have you with us.

I just ordered my 16’ Scamp deluxe from the factory.  (I'm in the process of downsizing from a Scamp 5er.)  They sent me a price list that included all the different models.  I think these prices may be the new ones for 2015 to go into effect sometime in March.  You would have to check to make sure of the price.  This should give you a good idea of a starting place.

It appears to me that the basic standard 16’ Layout 3 comes in at $12,395 with the extras you are asking for:

Sani Pott - $93

3 speed roof fan - $175

Screen Door - $195

Grey Water Tank - $135

1.9 refrigerator - $650

They may now come with a 12’ awning - $950

Outside step - $50

If you are out boondocking, I would suggest the vinyl floor. - $75

Good luck in your quest.  - - Earl

RE: Scamp Standard 16' Layout 6

Welcome to the club Steve,

I have a Scamp 16 Layout 6 on order. It includes the side dinette and shower/toilet . The base package price for the trailer was $15,000.

Options added:   Elec & Gas hot water heater  $270

Three speed fan                     $175  (Expensive, but members strongly recommend it)

                           Awning 12' crankout               $950

                          Outside step                               $50

                          Vinyl floor                                   $75

I plan to have my Scamp delivered the 1450 miles to my home in New Jersey. I have not yet got a price for that.

Best of luck to you,  Bill Sellen

Today's Agreement

Thanks for your responses Earl and Bill.  I also got a very nice PM from Flyboy, so cudoos to him.

This morning my wife (actually the boss) and I had a talk about the RV plan.  As the budget is tight we agreed on the following conditions.  We'll buy used and the top price we'll pay is $12,500 before tax.  Also, the distance from our house will not exceed 732 miles.

So, those are my new perameters.

Steve

Our Sister Site

Welcome Steve,

Keep current here:

Fiberglass-RV-4sale.com\Scamps

Your location is pretty easy to come up with used inventory, but you do have to work it as the good ones don't last long. Off season right now, but mid-March the inventory starts to really heat up, but the prices start rising as well.

RE: Scamp

Good luck in your search, Steve.  I began shopping for a used TT last summer. Impatience got the best of me ,hence my new Scamp. My plan is to fulltime , boondocking and following the warm weather. I've graduated from pop-up camping and have found a wealth of friendly advice on this website. I think your working with a very realistic price.

Regards, Bill

New Vs. Used

Hi Bill,

I understand your impatiance and buying from Scamp directly.  Used is great if you can get what you want at a fair price.  That is not an easy task!

Full timing sounds great, enjoy!

Steve
