generator

I am considering picking up a Honda 3000 generator and having my local weld dude make me a deck on the back of my 16 footer.  I like the idea of having the power to run when and where I want.  Has anyone done this before?  I am wondering about the additional weight on the bumper.

I sure enjoy this sight, just ordered the granite kit for my table, hope he gets a cut!

bumper

you will have to use a square or angle iron to beef up the factory bumper  i bolted a reese hitch to my 13 foot and you could bend the bumper up and down with one hand     just weld a square box metal the same size as the bumper right to the bumper  problem solved  gonna do it to mine one of these days

Honda 3000 Generator

The 3000 model of the Honda Generator seems like way too much power for your 16' Scamp. Unless you travel with a 6' Deep Freezer you probably won't need that much power. You could easily get by with the 1000 model unless you plan to run your air conditioning. If Air Conditioning is needed the 2000 model might be adequate (it might be close, so double check your calculations).

I've seen some models recently that are a few hundred watts above the even thousand watts which might meet your needs even better.

As Always,

Happy Scamping !!!

Thanks all

My Daddy told me a long time ago it is much safer and cheaper to learn from others mistakes rather than your own.  I seem to enjoy learning from my own.  I currently have a 1000 which works great for lights and some electronics like TV and radio.  It will not run the microwave. Great advice on the bumper!  Picking up the Scamp from storage next week!

In addition to reinforcing

In addition to reinforcing the bumper, you might want to consider reinforcing the frame from the axle to the bumper. I don't know how much a Honda 3000 generator weights but I suspect a lot more than my 800 watt generator. The bouncing down the road with that much weight on the bumper, plus the reinforcing, plus the generator mount could cause the cantilevered frame to bend!!! Also that much weight on the back bumper would significantly affect the hitch weight, depending on how the trailer was otherwise loaded. Be careful on this modification.
