Fantastic Fan "Vent Cover":

Good Morning:  Giving thought to a vent cover to go over fan vent opening to address any sudden down pours.  The question I have is revolves around my hesitation if it requires putting any holes in the Scamp shell.  I've seen on the road, but not on a Scamp.   Has any one here chosen to add one to their unit?  Pros and Cons would be helpful.  As always, thank you~

Maxx Air II

The Maxx Air II mounts to the side wall of the vent. http://www.airxcel.com/docs/default-source/maxxair/covers/10a50109-maxxa... It's been a while since I installed a Fantastic Fan cover but I think you drill into the vent roof flange. If you want an insect screen for the Fantastic Fan cover it is expensive as is the vent cover. If you have a Camping World close by you can compare covers.

MaxxAir Fan

Our new 2017 (16-Scamp) came with the MaxxAir Vent Fan (with integrated rain cover). I guess this was new for 2017 models as when we finalized our factory build they subtracted the rain cover and cost in our planning as they had switched to this all-in-one by MaxxAir. As an aside this unit has several speed selections, acts as a ceiling fan if the cover is closed and features a remote control which operates the fan but also starts (or stops) the fan automatically based on temperature you set. For the money I would look into the difficulty factor in replacing the whole fan which should get you everything you want and more. Having used the new fan over the summer we like the unit they installed.

Vent Fan Cover

We also have a 2017 Scamp (from November 2016) and it came with a FantasticFan vent.  I asked for a vent cover and the one that Scamp stocked was the one for MaxxAir and it appears to fit the FantasticFan as well.  I haven't had it off, but it looks as though it attaches to the fan shroud, not the roof.  So far it's kept the rain and snow melt out of our Scamp and I left the fan open all winter.

Editorial: it appears that several changes were made to the "2017" Scamp 16 models in January 2017 apparently including the MaxxAir system and upgrading to D load range tires!
