Factory Improvements

Scamp trailers are kind of like Volkswagon Beetles. The newer ones sort of look like the older ones.

We recently upgraded from a 2003 13' standard model to a 2015 16' standard and found that there were at least 19 improvements that have been made. I will list the improvements that I know of. Feel free to add to the list.

1. I think by now everyone knows that all of the newer Scamps are taller and wider, and the door is also taller. Taller is definitely better, so is wider.

2. Our older trailer had aluminum window frames, the windows always fogged up and the frames were always wet and cold. The newer crank style windows don't fog up and the frames stay close to room temperature.

3. The table top and cabinet doors used to be in an oak finish done in a soft vinyl coating. The new ones have a hard finish kind of like formica in a Brazilian cherry finish. The knobs have also been upgraded, looks great!

4. The cushion fabric has been upgraded and the foam is much more dense, better support, more comfortable and looks good.

5. The curtain rods use to fall down when traveling. They now have better brackets and the curtains are made of a heaver material.

6. The new sink has a cutting board built into it.

7. The old stove was painted enamel. The new one is stainless and the flame gets hotter. I can boil water in 1/3 the time that it took with the old one.

8. The underside of the cabinet above the stove would get very hot on the 13, it stays just warm on the 16 . Yes taller is better.

9. The small front window on the front bath models has been replaced by a fan in bathroom.

10. The brackets on the edge of the table are thicker and the wood backing under the rat fur is thicker and covers a larger area where the brackets attach to the wall.

11. A carbon monoxide detector is standard.

12. The weather stripping around the door is much more heavy duty.

13. The cap to the water tank is improved. I can fill the water tank in 1/4 the time it took to fill the old one.

14. The hitch jack is centrally mounted instead of being mounted on the side arm of the 13.

15. I believe that the trailer brakes use to be an option on the 16. They are now standard.

16. The wood sub-flooring under the trailer is now coated in fiberglass resin.

17. The table in the 16 is smaller, but it is easier to get in and out of the sitting area. There is an extra wood panel you use when setting up the bed. The wood panel gives you better support when sleeping.

18. The metal refrigerator vent has been replaced with vinyl ones.

19. The interior lights have been upgraded. The housing and the bulbs are different. You can get led replacement bulbs for the new bulbs and leds are now available for the old style bulbs too. If you camp without electricity it may be a good idea to upgrade, but if you camp at the big campgrounds that have power you may want to keep the original bulbs as they do a much better job of lighting the trailer. If you get leds try and get them on sale in the six pack. If you buy them individually it may be cheaper to get the bigger battery.

Dave, you forgot an essential, vital improvement that has been made.  The "racing stripes" on the cabinets is gone.  laugh

Our 2008 Scamp 16 has most or all of these, especially since I went to the factory and had it modded to our specs. The new Fiama F45 awning is the crowning achievement on the Scamp. We love what options we put on our Scamp, especially the new TV antenna!

Question

Hi !

Did they redesign the shower drain so it does not need the electric drain pump ?

No drain pump?

That would require a completely different layout, I think. The shower would have to be much higher (less head room), or be on the same side of the axle as the grey water tank. They probably think about it every once in a while.

Drain pump

Scamp first installed side showers with no pump and gravity drain. The pump was a great improvement. When they started installing the front shower it was a requirement since the grey water won't run uphill. Without the pump it is very easy to have grey water standing in your shower pan.

Shower Drain

Don't forget that there is a filter under the floor with a plastic cap and gasket. Unscrew that cap and clean out that filter. Shower will drain faster.
