I'm new here and have searched for this question but if I missed it i apologize. I want a camper wth a bathroom and bunkbeds. I had in mind the 16' but I think its going to be too heavy for the tow vehicle I want (a smaller SUV), so I'm rethinking the 13'. I really have no interest in the big dinette. Has anyone replaced that with bunkbeds? Will the same bunks that go in the front fit in the back? Would it make more sense ($$) to build some? How much space would be left over between the bunk and the closet/kitchen? thanks for any advice you have.

Hi Julie,
You'd need to make custom bunks for the dinette area I believe. The top bunk in front is connected to the front wall with a hinge and board cut to fit the curve. The back wall isn't the same shape curve. In addition, the floor in the back of the Scamp is about 4 inches higher, since the axle goes under it there. (Someone will know the exact measurement but it's around there.) You'll lose that 4 inches in the space between the bunks. The front bunks are pretty "cozy" as it is, so you might tour a Scamp or two with your idea in mind to see what you think.

The dinette bed is big enough that two can sleep comfortably in sleeping bags. We put our teenagers on our full dinette in sleeping bags head to toe and they do fine. Saves a lot of mod to the trailer and won’t affect resale later.
If you wanted a top bunk over the dinette bed it could be built with pvc pipe which would allow it to be removed later.

I have seen one S-16 modified with rear bunks. With the rear benches and step up the owners felt it was too tight a fit. They removed the rear benches and water tank and made a 3 1/2" sub floor to alow for your plumbing and wiring to be routed under the beds. Then they built a bunk above the lowered bed. With a bath in a S-13 your issue would be the water heater under the rear dinette seat and loss of water tank location.The lower bunk was only about 8" above the floor so you had to get down and kind of slide into the bunk.
