corrosion under battery

I am in the process of cleaning corrosion and re-painting under the battery box after removal.  We got back from a 3 week trip to Wisconsin about a month ago and at the last camp/ last day saw the white corrosion. There also was a small ammount of fluid under the battery when pulled out of the box yesterday.  We had spent most of the time hooked up to 20 or 30 amp shore power but while towing had the frig set to 12volt.  I checked the battery and it was about 55% charge yesterday but it took a charge and seems to be holding.    ( note: I did not check the charge when we got back )   This is a trailer less than a year old.

Any idea of the cause or what to look for????

Battery

First check the water level of your battery. Then check the charge voltage of your converter IAW with your converter paperwork. Sounds like you may be overcharging your battery. You should have a PD-9130 converter which I think has a two year warranty again check your paperwork. If everything is OK I recommend installing a Progressive Dynamics Charge Wizzard. It turns the PD-9130 into a smart charger and monitors and charges the battery only when needed and prevents overcharging. The Charge Wizzard is easy to install just plug in a connector and secure the connector with a screw. Money well spent, about $25.

Charge Wizard

Seconds the motion for using a Charge Wizard - relatively easy and inexpensive upgrade.

Battery Corrosion

While you are at it, I like to add Felt Washers to the battery posts to prevent corrosion of the battery terminals.

They are Cheap and they Work Great !!!

I've used them for Years and Years.

Available at most Auto Parts Stores or at Amazon...
