Bed extension

When travelling in the Scamp it doesn't take long to realize that if you're the one sleeping closest to the end of the bed, where the dinette table ends, the cushions sag down which I found was uncomfortable. I fabricated a small bed extension which sits on the channels of the front of the seats.

Just a piece of pine cut out to fill the gap where the cushions sag. To support the center I made this hinged leg. Just stained and poly'd it to protect the wood.

Made a four month journey much more enjoyable!

Bed extension

When we ordered our Scamp 13' Big bed model, we always intended to make this alteration in order to sleep longways. We are not young and crawling over each other in the middle of the night was never and option. And, since neither of us is extremely tall this alteration works great for us. My husband and I purchased an extra table top from Eveland when we picked up our new Scamp 13 in July. He attached 2 legs to one end and we slide the other end under the cushions part way and it extends the bed base to just past the sink. I made a 38" x 11" x 5" foam cushion with a 1/4" plywood backer to sit on the exposed end of the second table top. There is just enough room left to get in and out of the bathroom. In the day time we use the extra cushion for a back rest and slide the extended table top under the cushions so the kitchen is fully functional. We leave the bed up permanently and use the space underneath for much needed storage. We traveled for 5 weeks this summer and were very comfortable.
