i also suggest you go to harbor freight and get yourself a cheap vom meter about 5.00 bux then you can start learnign about circuits!
in your case if you hook up all the white lines to the minus side of your battery that leaves your black to hook up where? to the plus side of your battery of course.
if someone has cut those lines you need to get some new eyes to put on your black and white lines in order to hook up to your battery. any mechanic will share this for no cost by the way!!
you should have a big white line that connects to the minus side

also you can go with a 12v test light one end to ground other to black or plus it wont lie
