Are fiberglass benches required / structural?

I removed the fiberglass benches at the rear of my 16' Scamp today in pursuit of some flooring repair.

I have a side dinette, and would never use the rear area for anything but sleeping - the mattress there would be permanent.

Are there any risks / downsides to leaving those out permanently?  I'd like to replace them with a sleeping platform that has a pull out drawer in the center.

Thanks in advance!

They are not required

They are not required/structural in our 1974 13' SCAMP.  The clothes closet and kitchen cabinets are.

Structural

Wayne's post is correct. Also, to expand since we've seen many remodeled Scamps that have removed structural pieces, any floor to ceiling cabinetry like the closet, the twisty wraught iron supports on the kitchen cabinets, and on the front side of the door is a 3/4" aluminum tube running along side the door are all structural elements.
