refridgerators

I can't seem to find a search function as I bet this has been hashed over a bunch. we just did a "shake down" three day tri in the Scamp. all was fine but I despise messing with coolers and ice. after 25 years of RV activity it is very difficult to scale down form a fridge to a box with ice in it. I have looked at the different 12 volt/110 units and there seems to be either cheaper-Koolatron or Coleman-or more expensive, something like an ARB or Engel. so any thoughts form those that have already been there. I can't tell if there is enough room in my 1999 13 foot Standard to have a standard RV dometic or something installed. Mine has an AC beside the door, set under a small closet. thanks for any help and experience.

We have used the same 12v

We have used the same 12v Coleman for 20+ years.  We take it with us whenever we travel, even when not Scamping.  A thermo-cooler is not quite the same as full refrigeration, but it works well to keep basic foodstuffs and drinks cool.

We strongly recommend getting the 110v converter: it can be used to pre-cool the box before leaving on a Scamping trip, and keeping it cool when at a camping site where electricity is available.

Fridge

You can get a 12V Coleman cooler at Walmart that usually comes with an AC accessory plug.  I have one.  Like it too.

Dometic makes 3 way fridges.  It should fit in the same place your ice box is mounted if that's what you have.

Also Dometic makes a portable cooler/freezer.  I have one.  While they aren't cheap they work great.
