Hey folks. Just asking if y'all think a Tacoma V6 4x4 with 6 spd automatic with towing package will be enough. Going out west into Rockies. Can swap to a manual transmission if need be. Tacoma towing capacity is 6700lbs with towing package.

Picking up my Scamp 19 in May, TV recommendations.
Hey Ray congratulations!
More than enough truck for the 19. Did you look at having a hitch mounted yet? The one issue with the Tacoma is with the composite bed they have to tie into the frame. Not a huge deal, but can add time to getting the hitch installed.

Ray,
Good choice to get a Scamp 19. We love ours because it allows a little more room and is very comfortable. It also pulls and maneuvers well. I pull mine with a Tacoma 4x4 v6 5 speed automatic with tow package. We explore the Cascade range, northern Idaho and Montana with ours. It has plenty of power for the passes. The most struggle we've had is fighting the headwinds in the Columbia river gorge but it handles that as well.
As Greg mentioned, the hitch needs to be connected to the frame due to the composite bed. I installed mine by myself in only 2 days. Hindsight being 20:20 if I had to do it again, I'd have it installed professionally. I grew up on a farm fixing machinery and had the skills and tools to install the hitch, but being over 60, my body had trouble doing the contortions necessary to fit under the truck. Having said that, it can be done yourself.
Congratulations

Thanks guys. I am gonna let Scamp install the hitch. I'm in the same boat I'm 61 and just retired due to a disc herniation. I've worked in heavy industry all my life. I'm sure I could pull off the install but why not let the factory do it. Any suggestions for a good brake controller? Or is that a subject for another post?
Ray
My Tacoma has a Tekonsha voyager brake controller. I cannot compare it to other controllers since this is the first one I've owned. The controller does a good job for me and is easy to adjust. From reading other threads on controllers, Tekonsha seems to be recommended quite often.

I had a 1996 5er delux.
It had a 500# hitch weight, the Tacoma has a 800# bed weight limit. They also have weak leaf springs and there is technical service recall out on the 2nd generation of Tacomas. I put springs helpers on mine then decided to to get a 16' Std. Scamp.
It is easier to hook up and a lot less weight to pull.
