I have a new old Scamp. It is now titled in Oregon, but formerly in Washington. The title information was transferred from the Washington title.
The title lists the year as 1970.
The title shows the make as MANS. Oregon DMV does not know what that means.
The title shows the style as RT
The length is LG 13
As they could not find the VIN number on the Scamp, they made one ujp (Oregon is OR688).
We scraped, sanded, removed much paint and found the numbers where they should be on the tongue frame.
But, there are 2 lines of numbers stamped in the frame. Do all SCAMPS have 2 sets of numbers?
The top number is 9.80
About 3/4" below that on the frame is E.1.5.411
There are SCAMP logos on every side of the egg, so I am pretty sure it is a Scamp.
Can anyone decipher the VIN number and give me the year and whatever else. Does that VIN number pertain only to SCAMPS?
I would like to have a correct title for this trailer so all help is welcome. Thanks, Jill
The VIN Decoder is in our resources section. Should help you sort it out.

Not unusual for Titles to have some goofy stuff on them. Molded Fiberglass trailers like the Scamp don't show up in a lot of databases.

I would suggest contacting Scamp and asking for a Notarized letter indicating the correct information based on the Vin you found.
You might also ask if they could send a duplicate "Certificate of Origin" or a photo copy of the original.
If they can't get a copy of the Certificate of Origin, maybe they could tell you which State the original owners were from. You could then contact that State to see if you could get a copy of the Original Certificate of Title, or some other information.
I am sure they would be glad to help.
As Always,
Happy Scamping !!!
The original documents may be gone. On Friday January 13th, 2006 the main Eveland’s Inc. (Scamp) factory caught fire.
With your VIN they should however confirm that it is a Scamp and the year.
From the Scamp Owners page:
“Trailers built between 1971-1982 used a non-standard number. The serial number started with E and was followed by four or five numbers. Some of the earliest trailers may only have had three numbers. The number following the E was the year of manufacture.”
RT = Recreational Trailer (travel trailer)
E.1.5.411 may indicate that it is a 1971 (or 1981). Can you post a picture?
I had the original title from the original owner, who picked it up in Backus in 1981. My VIN is E15754. I believe your camper was hatched a few weeks before mine. the 9.80 could easily be the weld date on the trailer frame, but the assembled trailer was not completed until 1981 when the VIN was assigned. I will check my frame when I get it back from the shop.
