doors flying open

What are some good ideas dealing with cabinet doors and the refer flying open while driving over rough roads?  I have tough of bungee cords using marine fairleads or eyelets, but my wife thinks it is to ugly.

Doors Closed

Balance the tires if you haven't already done so. Small bungee cords linking adjacent door knobs. If the fridge is next to the table/bed, slide a middle cushion out a bit to help keep the the door closed. And of course, turn the latch on the fridge door. We do all of the above.

Keeping doors closed and drawers in place.

We take some bumpy roads and everything would fly open at one time or another, until...

The fridge, the oven and the cabinet with three shelves (used as a pantry) now have one inch wide nylon straps across the doors. One end is screwed to the cabinet, the other end has a velcro or a snap (or both). They don't look too bad and they cannot get lost since one end is permanently attached.

The four drawers are two and two across the aisle and a closed cell packaging foam block (~ 3x4 cros-section), was cut and the ends shaped, long enough (about 22 inches) to fit snugly between the pairs to keeps them closed. The drawers themselves have been re-glued and don't fall apart any more.

The entry door was also a problem because the strike plate angle was not quite right. A nylon cord is epoxy glued in a hole drilled through the fiberglass into the cabinet wall just outside of the door seal. It gets tied to the hardware that keeps the door secured when open.

The exhaust hood above the stove was also reattached and large washers were used to prevent screws from pulling through the shelving material.

Lots of little fixes, but it's pretty good now. Maybe some useful ideas here.

Adjustable Door Latches

We have not had a big problem with doors opening. On our 2015 13 Standard all the door latches are adjustable.  I have adjusted a couple of them tighter with good results.

Keeping Doors & Drawers Closed

Check out this site http://justfinding.blogspot.com/2012/09/phlip-it-latches.html

These are what we used on our Scamp and now on our Lil Snoozy.  I'm the "friend" that suggested these to John.

Latches

Looks like the company that was selling these has folded. Might find some odds n ends on eBay, but not seeing any stock floating around.

Door latches

John's web page is a great source of information. I have been on it many times to enjoy his photographs, but never looked at the Phlip-it-latches thank you for finding them - they might be of use on my Scamp yet. I would want to place them so that the pull knob and the latch can be operated with one hand, somehow.

Door locks

Silverware Drawer Latch

My drawer retainer would work loose once and a while so I replaced it with a latch.

The latch is similar to a lock but no key, just a knob.

I got it on Amazon.

I put one on the bathroom door. If someone tries to lock you in you can lift the latch from inside.
