I have a 2011 16 ft trailer. From the person I purchased from, he said it was a known problem that the thermostats dont turn off and will run if the interior temp goes below 50. That did happen to me one night and woke me up. So the seller was just taking the 15 amp fuse out , which doesn't seem a good solution. or having to turn the propane off and on each night but the fan would still run..
After calling Scamp service they said just replace the Suburban thermostat. They denied it was " a known problem". Im confused! Dont know what to think. Any experience with this and suggested solutions?
Guess I couldn't answer if it was a "known Problem" or not, but, at this point, does it really matter? The unit is 5 years old, well beyond any warranty coverage, so I guess I would just bite the bullet and replace the thermostat, as Scamp suggested. I would not continue to use these workarounds.
A new thermostat isn't THAT expensive is it?
I called Scamp for a replacement and they now use the digital thermostat. Very easy to install. I got one months ago and installed it myself. Get one.

You could have a bad thermostat, but it is more likely that you are not turning the thermostat off all the way.Move the lever gently to the left. When it stops there will be a gap of about 1/4" between the knob and a plastic post that supports the cover of the thermostat. Then apply more pressure, (sometimes you have to push kind of hard), and the knob will move over until it contacts the plastic post. You will hear a clicking noise at this time. Now your thermostat is off. The Clicking noise is the shaft of the lever passing over a bump on the housing. This opens up some contacts cutting off the electricity. You can take the cover off and observe what is happening. It is really easy to not turn it all the way off, especially if you don't know how it works.

I just had problems on my first cool weather trip in the 16'. The furnace kept coming on, even though I had the lever all the way to the left - what I thought was the off position. Finally, in the middle of the night, I took the cover off and stuffed a bit of wadded up paper towel between the contacts. There!
After I got home, in the clear light of day, I took it apart again, and lo and behold, there is an off switch on the left bottom. It was nearly impossible to push into the off position, but I helped it a little bit with a pocket knife at first, then clicked it a few times. I don't know if all thermostats are alike, but I understand mine a little better now.

Good to know the thermostat is powered by its own 2 AAA batteries
We got our digital thermostat from Scamp and it was very easy to install. No more of the old style move the lever type!
