Deluxe or Standard

I realize this is a matter if preference, but while in Backus last week I toured 2 16ft Scamps. One deluxe and for comparison one standard. I saw the deluxe first and it was very beautiful inside. I really liked it. I then saw a standard, and to my surprise I liked it better! It felt more roomy, and oddly I could breathe easier - I guess less closed in, perhaps the white cabinets. If I feel the need for a 16ft in the future, I know what my choice will be. I am very glad I got to compare them in person.

Did you compare the number of rivets through the shell?  You could simply count the number of snap caps on the outside.

If money is not issue, then that info would be a major factor in my decision.

We originally wanted a deluxe

We originally wanted a deluxe interior but got a standard and glad we did. Lighter weight, cost less, and we can attach those suction cup plastic baskets all over the place on our fiberglass panels.

We got the standard in 2014.

We got the standard in 2014. I thought i would change the doors, but as it turns out ,the FG cabinets and cherry stained door make a nice contrast.  Carl

Rivets

Having recently replaced the snap caps in a Deluxe, I can now embrace the simplicity of a Standard. Getting phillips head screws out was a serious pain.  I was very lucky that they came out and the wood was still usable.

I don't know why Scamp even drills through the shell.....argh!

Personally I prefer the Deluxe, but everyone has their own taste. I have had a 16 Side dinette standard, and a 13 standard front bunk..I now have a 2016 13 Deluxe w/front dinette. Each was nice in it's own right.

As we all know the Scamp molds  have not changed since the fire.

All Scamp needs to do is mold or glass wood cleats to the inside shell to screw the cabinets to. They do this on the front bunk area...why no though out the trailer.

I would even pay extra if they would do it...as I dis-like the snap caps so much.

Construction

On our third Scamp and the through hull mounting of the cabinetry and even the curtain rods has always been one of my pet peeves. One of the big reasons our retirement trailer is an Escape 19 is the construction differences.

Every hole drilled through a fiberglass shell is a potential leak-point and those rivets, screws in the deluxe, do leak. It's why the screws are rusted down into the wood cabinetry and rot develops that you find when you redo them.

Scamps are good trailers, but they are overdue for some modernization.

I agree Greg, Scamp is stuck

I agree Greg, Scamp is stuck in the 70's and needs major upgrades!

Bigger bed

The availability of the bigger bed on the Deluxe was our decision maker.
