Is the factory accurate at their stated initial 1800-2000 lbs or did your 16' Scamp weight more when you got it? I'm wondering what our #4 layout(with smaller side bathroom) will weigh, including tongue weight? Will the tongue weight be less than the more common #6 layout with dinette and front bathroom or same? Assuming you do not have the deluxe oak upgrade, what did your weigh?

what does your 16' Scamp weigh?
I have layout four, with AC, no awning.
With gear for one person, a weeks worth of food for one, but no water on board, it's about 2450 with 250 on tongue.
2400-2600 total is typical trailer weight.once you actually hit the road for a camping outing.
Its a bit of a challenge to get not less than 10% on tongue and that is with the group 27 battery and one haf full propane tank. I don't hesitate to put some luggage on the sofa when traveling (secured of course). The porta-potty storage under the sofa is a good place to put heavy items. Traveling with fresh water in tank would bring my tongue weight down to low I think.
Most large full service truck stops with Cat scales will allow you to weigh your trailer for just $10.00.

I also make sure my water tank is full prior to towing. The extra 96 pounds so far aft helps to lessen the tongue weight. Also come in handy when fresh water hook up is not available, like our last trip to Ken Lake Stae Park.

Hi Doug: Please clarify something for me. May be incorrrect, but I had heard Scamp recommended that you not travel with tank filled. With that, what are the pros and cons of carrying a tank of water. Barb
i have not heard that from Scamp, will have to contact them. I arrived at Ken Lake campground and my hose would not reach the connection, so we were stuck with what water we had. I will contact Scamp right away.

Barb, every rig is different, but I can tell you that with my Scamp 16 #4, the tongue weight is just barely 10% of the total trailer weight and how I pack it does not change that very much. And that is with the larger (group 27 battery on the tongue (but single propane tank).
Of course one of the basic tenets of towing with a simple ball on hitch arrangement (such as the Scamps) is that tongue weight should be 10-15% of total trailer weight. With my rig at the minimum already, I would not routinely travel with the rear water tank full. In fact, this is one of the reasons that I took my spare tire off the back and transport it in the trunk of my van instead. Light tongue weight often leads to problems with the trailer swaying.
Furthermore, I am pretty sure my layout design makes the trailer a little heavier on the starboard side, and adding 83 lbs of water on the same side would not help the weight distribution.
