Well I had my first Scamping trip for the 2014 season.I took my grandson to a state park in Pa for a local get away. The first day went fine until I saw what I forgot to bring. There was a Lowes about ten miles away so I spent money I did not count on, as always. We had a great fire that night, lots of local wood for sale. The next day we checked out the campground and did a lot of nothing until dinner. The wind started to blow a little so we ate dinner inside. All of a sudden we heard a loud crash,I ran outside to see my awning was over the top of my camper the wrong way! The wind was fierce and ripped the stakes from the ground and blew the awning back so hard it bent two of the three mounts on the roof. The bolts were ripped out of the two mounts on the ends. The center mount was the only one holding the awning in place. We fought to bring the awning back to the correct side and cranked it back in. That took two of us as it was still extremely windy.Well back to Lowes the next day to buy a step ladder so I could take down the awning the rest of the way so I could tow it safely. Now I wait to hear from the insurance adjuster to call me.Good thing I had insurance! Here are some pictures of the damage.

OUCH! Did it damage your trailer itself...or only the awning, brackets, etc?
Once (while towing a fifth wheel),.we "bucked" a very strong wind in Wyoming. We pulled into a campground early. Several other campers arrived with awnings hanging every which direction; we had a hard time figuring out what to do with them. I got duct tape and rope and secured ours for the next day (which was not as windy). In this instance, these awnings were not set out; even so....
Hope all goes well for you.
Wow, sorry to hear ur awning blast. Out West you can have a perfect day change into a gale force blow in 15 minutes so we see a lot of these type of awning blasts. Hope ur Scamp is Ok and didnt damage the fiberglass.
What is the park you went to??

The best I can see the fiberglass is NOT damaged. I'm surprised to hear the other campers awnings were damaged when they were not set out !! This wind I encountered blew up out of nowhere and caught me by surprise. The insurance already called me and are going to send me a check to repair it.
We stayed at Gifford Pinchot state park Pa. It was a nice park but the restrooms are a bit shabby. All the picnic tables need to be repaired in a big and proper way. Some have been repaired but very poorly.

I ordered the new awning direct from Fiamma and installed it with a little help. That saved me some money. I noticed when we were up on the ladder there was damage to the fiberglass. I called the insurance co. again and the battle began. I was totally surprised, when the smoke all cleared, I won !! I came out with enough money to not only replace the awning and fix the damaged fiberglass but also paint the bottom half of the camper. I took this opportunity to change the electric hook up and re paint the entire A frame hitch and bumper. These two areas were painted extremely bad at the factory so I was very glad to re-do them. After this work was done I felt it needed some graphics, which I designed and paid for myself. It looks so good now I'm going to change the inside next.

It does look nice. It seems these days if you want something done right, it does pay to do it yourself, in both dollars and satisfaction.
