Has anyone installed dual 6V GC batt's. on the tongue of a S-13 or S-16. ? Pictures or installation information would be very helpful. I thought this modification is Solar related that why I chose to post it here..
Dual 6 Volt batteries are an excellent choice to increase your boondocking days, either with or without Solar.
You face two issues:
1, Physical size limitation; can you fit a pair of 6v on your tongue? You will need approximately 22-24 inches in width at the narrowest point and the 6v batteries are also taller than the 12v battery you are replacing.
2, Weight; can your Tow Vehicle handle the additional tongue weight? If tongue weight is an issue, you might consider placing the second battery on the rear bumper.
Please keep us posted on how your project progresses.
Happy Scamping !!!
I've seen a number of them done over the years. Plenty of room to add them to the tongue, just have to decide if you want a custom box or off the shelf. Here's an earlier post on the topic. http://www.scampowners.com/forums/adding-second-battery-13-scamp
I'd recommend going with a sturdy locking box, as there will be about $4-500 worth of batteries on the tongue. The torklift locking boxes are very nice and could be easily mounted to the tongue. https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/TorkLift/TLA7708R.html

Buying or Selling Molded FG Trailers:
I'm getting ready to head back to Va. so my battery project is on hold for now. I have a S-16 DX FP-A with a single propane tank and battery and my tongue weight is 170 Lbs. (Outback owners dream of this TW.) My current plan is to go with dual propane and dual 6V batteries. I 'm towing with a 1500 RAM Eco Diesel with WDH so no issues there. Single tank and battery are mounted between the frame rails. With dual tanks the tank tray is mounted above the frame rail. I have found an end to end 6V battery box and may try to mount it above the frame rail behind the tanks. My dual tank tray is in Va. so I have to wait to get back home to check clearances.
Plan 2: Tractor Supply Corp. (TSC) now carries a tall aluminum tongue box. It looks like will hold one full size LP tank and battery. I saw another member who had a similar box that he mounted two bike racks to the top of the box. This box hangs over the frame rails about 2" on each side. So I'm still looking at options. http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/tractor-supply-co-trailer-tongue-tool-box-silver?cm_vc=-10005
I already have a side winder jack and plan to remove the hose tube from the front of the trailer for more clearance.
Can you post a link to that End-to-End Battery Box. I am looking for a single box solution.
Heavy Duty Battery Box for Two 6V Golf Cart Batteries End-to-End
There are also some metal boxes available but more $$. I may build a wooden box and just fiberglass it.
Thanks for the links !!!!
I guess there was a little Golf pun in that line .
Here is a box for two golf cart batteries on a Scamp 16 but it leaves no room for a propane tank.. just to give you an idea.
