Affordable tow vehicle

Seeking advice on an affordable and fuel efficient vehicle for a 16.  My husband and I are still debating whether to purchase 13 or 16.  We have a 2003 escape with tow package but not fuel efficient to tow for long periods.  Any thoughts on new or used vehicles for towing?  We thought about a subaru outback but Scamp company told us this will not support the 16.  Thanks everyone.

TV

We had Hyundai Santa Fe with 6 cyl 200hp and 6 speed trans towing a Casita 17' Liberty DL. Because of the 6 speed and direct injection this got 15 mpg @ 60-65 mph and 14 mpg with A/C. Uphill against the wind it would go down to 12 mpg @55-60 mph. Regular mpg for me was always 22-27. Very reliable with 100K mi warranty. Not all that expensive considering it's factory wired for 7 pin, needs no trans cooler, and the hitch bolts right up and is hidden by a cover when not in use. I think the 6 speed Xmission is essential in a modern TV. They're hard to find and the resale value is high 'cause it's a nice ride. 2013 is the first year of the full size Santa Fe with this configuration. They make a Sport model with a a turbo 4 cyl but that's not for me because it won't have the tow stuff.

Love my 2015 Chevy Traverse

Love my 2015 Chevy Traverse LT 3.6L, 261 HP , 266 ft lbs torque with 6 speed trans. Has a 5200 lb tow package. Pulls our 16 ft Deluxe very well. Got about 15 MPG at 65 MPH. They are about $35000 new but you can find used ones with the same features for much less. You will need a tow vehicel that has a tow cap of at lease 3500 lb. that is a 16 ft trailer 2 people and all the gear plus water gas tank and battery. It adds up quick.

We have the Ford Escape 6

We have the Ford Escape 6 cylinder and pulls the Scamp quite well. We added a tranny cooler, and a e trailer hitch and brake controller. Sure made a nice tow vehicle. We have a 3500 pound tow limit so it pulls the loaded 16 just fine. We get about 18 mpg while towing. I never exceed 65 mph, and often a bit slower. The journey is as much fun often as the destination.
