Leaking Water Tank

When we purchased our 2005 Escape 17 in Oct. the seller mentioned the water tank overflows if you fill it all the way and then shorts out the electrical when the frame grounds get wet.  I didn't think that was the reason behind those issues, but it was a big reason we got an Escape at an excellent price and I look more at the foundational items of a trailer than maintenance issues.

Since Quartzsite gathering is weeks away and it is pure "Boondocking" on BLM Land, the first project I did this weekend was the water tank.  I pulled the Hose Barb Elbow inlet valve at the tank where it is leaking and lo and behold all the threads on the inlet were cracked.

Found the part on Amazon with free 2 day Prime Shipping for $3 and it will be here Monday.

Thogus Nylon Tube Fitting, 90 Degree Elbow, White, 1-1/4" NPT Male x Barbed (Pack of 1)

Wrap the threads with some teflon tape and rethread into the tank, put the filler tube back on and we'll be carrying a full tank to Quartzsite.

Update on Water Tank Repair

After dropping the water tank, I cleaned it thoroughly, teflon taped the new inlet valve and water tested the tank.  Threads fit perfectly and no leaks after filling the tank.

Reinstalled the tank and completely filled it, added some chlorox for disinfecting and no leaks from the tank for the rest of the day.

Getting ready for Boondocking week at the Quartzsite Gathering and couldn't go there only carrying half a tank of water, so this was an essential repair.

Time Invested: 1.5 hrs

Cost of parts: $3

Need a shower at Quartzsite: Priceless

Can't drain fresh water tank

We just bought a 1995 19 foot DeLuxe. It is in spectacular condition.

One problem is the drain valve on the fresh water tank. It is very stiff to turn, and no matter what position the handle is in, no water comes out. (Yes there is water in the tank.) Anyone had a similar problem .... and solved it? I really don't want to tow around a half full tank, and pumping the water into the waste tank seems a bit wasteful.

Thanks.

Sounds like lots of dirt

Sounds like lots of dirt stuck in the valve....try opening it and putting a very short length of hose on it and blow into it to push the dirt up and out of the valve..... the valve itself could just be replaced with one from home depot or spray it liberally in and out with a lubricant to get it turning easier
