New cabinet doors

Before we left SC for our west coast or bust adventure we decided to update the cabinet doors. Using 5/8 Baltic Birch we cut the doors to size and put a radius on the corners of 1 ¼”. We then backed beveled the edges to eliminate the need for handles. They have worked very well and finishing them in a natural finish has brightened the interior of the camper.

Good Job

Always thought the back-bevel would be a nice feature and eliminate some of the hardware.  Looks Great!

The table took me the longest

The table took me the longest to make.I had to mill the walnut and hard pine from rough stock to the size I wanted then inlay it all in the birch plywood that I tried to make look rustic with the shallow cuts painted black. It all sounded good until I started, then I ran into one problem after another, mostly my own fault due to lack of experence. After poly, sanding, more poly, more sanding about 30 coats later I realized it would never be as good as I was trying to make it and accepted the imperfections.

The outhouse door went well,I learned from the table. The wooden door knob was my son in laws idea that I made work and I'm glad I did.Hanging the door and red oak trim was a bit of a pain but it worked out.

The cabinet doors went better when I decided to not even try to make them all perfectly square.Again walnut trim on all doors added a look I thought would stand out well. Overall I'm happy the way it came out.

New doors for me too

just bought my '93 13' Scamp in May. Been Scamping all summer long and she's now in "dry dock" for the winter. On the plan...grey water, new cabinet doors and extending the closet opening and making it into a pantry (thank you for the PVC design...genius!)

Grey water is in process but boring ;-)

Making my new doors out of  Bamboo flooring on the horizontal  Gorilla glue in the tongue & groove seams, 1/8" Masonite on the back for additional strength on bumpy roads.  1/4 round routing on the edges.  uppers are in  looks great.  I love them!!  They will add a bit of weight.  But not enough to matter.

I think I am leaning towards

I think I am leaning towards the lighter wood for my 81 Scamp, I would like to do the doors and table in a lighter colored wood.  Does anybody else out there have photos of lighter cabinets.  Deb I really like the way your bamboo looks.  Can you post more pics of your Scamp or is there a way on this website to go to individuals and see all of their postings?
