Gallons on Shower

I have heard somewhere that RV shower is around 3-6 gallons, but not sure the source.

Found that this is the general consensus on home showers.

"In an average home, showers are typically the third largest water use after toilets and clothes washers. The average American shower uses 17.2 gallons (65.1 liters) and lasts for 8.2 minutes at average flow rate of 2.1 gallons per minute (gpm) (7.9 lpm)."

Of course in the Trailers, we're doing the wet, soap, rinse routine turning the shower head off between steps, but one can see the 3-6 gallon estimate is probably close. I'd go 20 minimum on the hold tank and even larger if you can do it. On a recent trip the campground showers were so bad the wife and I had to shower in the trailer every day and I would have to dump the gray tank every night. Fortunately, some campgrounds are changing their views and will allow gray dump on the grass and bushes especially in drought areas if it is bathwater and not kitchen sink water. Make sure you check with each sites rules/reg that it is allowed before dumping gray water.

Water use

Try it in your driveway a few times, draining into a 5 gallon container.  Then you'll know for sure.  It's always best to try out new equipment before you're out in the woods.

Tank sizes may be wrong

Better actually measure the capacity of all of your tanks.  I understand from a discussion on Yahoo Scampers chat room that there has been a long time use of wrongly labeled tanks put  into Scamps.  Scamp has recently put out a correction from the parts dept.

Smaller

Hey Bob,

I'm assuming they're saying the tanks are short, but can't find anything on the Scamp manufacturer site other than 12 fresh, 9 black, and 26 grey. Older trailers it says have 15 grey, but doesn't give the years. Do they have it published anywhere?

My 97 19 looks like it has 10 fresh, 9 black, and no idea on the grey yet. Measurement of the tanks would appear correct for those numbers. Easy tank volume calculator:  http://www.dep.state.pa.us/dep/deputate/waterops/redesign/calculators/volcalchtm.htm

Scamp tanks

You also need the measurements for any plumbing/hole locations and any internal reinforcement and/or bulkhead materials.  I understood that the Scamp fill hole location on the fresh and grey water tanks do not allow use of the entire tank interior dimensions along with the problem of apparenty mis-labeled tanks from Scamp's suppliers.

Try checking the following address for more info.  Our "Lil Critter" has no tank (I removed all it to make more room for storage.) so really did not follow the entire YAHOO conversation that closely.

Wet, soap, rinse

With the wet, soap, rinse routine using the solar heating bags, I can tell that I use 2 gallons max when showering. There is no skimping of the water either as I really like those late afternoon showers after a warm day. Then time for the lounge chair and a cold one.

Tanks

Launey took a longer look at ours this morning and he seems to think that its pretty close to about 26 gal on the grey water,But he may call Mike in the parts dept on Monday or Tues when we get home from Zion.I do know that he has refilled our fresh water tank up again after emptying it and we had not dumped our grey water tank and it never did over flow.so he was thinking about twice as much room as the fresh water

Love Zion

Earlene

Where are you staying at Zion? Love that park, and usually stay at a commercial site on the river outside the gates.
