13' Scamp, 2016. This spring, when I use the lights (all LED) on battery power, they go very dim! The battery is new as of yesterday (now I am wondering if I bought a new battery for no good reason) and fully charged. When shore power is plugged in the lights are as bright as usual.
Checked all fuses. There's no sign of mice or anything like that anywhere inside. I looked at the electric boxes in the well behind the left wheel, but everything looks clean and like-new. I'd never know if anything was wrong in there, just by looking.
I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. Help?!!?
Joan
EDIT: I managed to get hold of Scamp's service department, who walked me through things like fuses, checking to make sure the inverter plug was securely attached, and wire bundles looking good. No luck. So I got an appointment to drive to Backus on Monday and have them check it out. It sounds like a weird problem the person on the phone had never had occur before, which is kinda scary. I'll update this with the answers (I hope), in case anybody else can learn from it.
Based on Scamp's answer to check the wire bundles, I'd guess wiring in your '16 is very much like it was in our '06, messy. Wiring is very nice and neat in their new trailers. It seems that in the past, ground wires were clipped to whatever other ground was handy. Those connections can be iffy over time while still looking good. I connected them all to a common bus at the front where the tow wire enters. The ground wires are all usually white and can be safely all connected together. Your house is wired like that. Use a meter to be sure. Bare 12 volt wires won't hurt you.
